America logic

Stop danger with even more danger

the most common violent crimes in the us are commited with a baseball bat, then a car. On average there are far more countries that have very lax gun control with low crime rates (Switzerland, Australia) than those with heavy gun control and high crime rates (Cambodia, Singapore, UK)

You can't understand Americans until you understand our obsession with guns. Our media, movies and music are all in support of pseudo-rebelliousness. The government allows us to own guns so we can pretend like they aren't the bosses of us, that they work for us, and that we can kick them out anytime we want. When in reality they have us by the balls.
User avatar #19 - datargumme (11/17/2012) [-]
I just live in a place where everyone have a decent standard of living, so the crime is very low. And most of the crime is just drunk guys fighting. So we dont really need a 2nd ammendment here.

"Some one robs you."
" ******* murder them."

Dosen't seem like a good philosophy to live by.
User avatar #51 to #50 - ironsoul (11/17/2012) [-]
Well, if they don't want to get shot, they can stay the **** out of my house. I don't go down the street shooting random dudes. Also, if somebody breaks into my house, I am not going to wait and find out if they are armed the hard way, I am going to protect myself from what is likely an armed intruder.
User avatar #52 to #51 - ironsoul (11/17/2012) [-]
and before some dumbass says "they wouldn't be armed if they couldn't get a gun" I am going to point out that being stabbed is statistically more lethal than being shot, and knives AREN'T regulated, and a convicted felon can get them legally, unlike a gun.
User avatar #58 to #52 - spearpwi ONLINE (11/17/2012) [-]
Well then run the **** away. A life, be it yours or the burglars, is far more precious than a ******* PlayStation. Jeez.
User avatar #60 to #58 - ironsoul (11/17/2012) [-]
So I am supposed to jump out of a fifth story window rather than shoot the ****** ? I only have the one door, and he is between me and it. What if I have children? Should I throw them out the window too?
User avatar #62 to #60 - spearpwi ONLINE (11/17/2012) [-]
Thieves do not tend to knock down doors and shoot people unless they are robbing a bank. Hell, last time my house got robbed my brother ended up chasing the burglar down the street before he got away.
User avatar #64 to #62 - ironsoul (11/17/2012) [-]
I live in a ****** neighborhood. My neighbor got robbed a couple of months ago, and they beat the **** out of her (she is a 67 year old woman).
User avatar #66 to #64 - spearpwi ONLINE (11/17/2012) [-]
And you think shooting the burglar will solve that problem? If so then you clearly need to review your aspect on how criminals think. Say you find it hard to get by legitimately and turn to burglary for a living. Suddenly you hear that some burglars are getting shot to death whilst stealing some **** . Do you really believe that they are going to think "wow, I should go home and think of a better way to live my life." No, they would not. They would probably end up entering a house with the opinion that, if they see the home owner, they will definitely be the first one to pull the trigger.
User avatar #67 to #66 - ironsoul (11/17/2012) [-]
So they attacked, robbed, and beat an unarmed old woman so hard that she has too live in a nursing home because they felt threatened? seems legit.
User avatar #71 to #67 - spearpwi ONLINE (11/17/2012) [-]
Dude, I am not trying to be unsympathetic or anything but seriously, bad **** happens to people. Giving people guns is just going to let more bad things keep happening.
User avatar #73 to #71 - ironsoul (11/17/2012) [-]
somehow I think if she had come out of her bedroom wielding a nine mil rather than a hairbrush, she wouldn't need to be spoonfed every meal.
User avatar #74 to #73 - spearpwi ONLINE (11/17/2012) [-]
No because she would probably be six feet under having aggravated a group of thugs who were already planning on beating the **** out of her.
User avatar #75 to #74 - ironsoul (11/17/2012) [-]
Two. 2 men. I am betting after she put a slug through the first, the second would run screaming into the night.

I have had enough of this. All I can see from you is "Hurr Durr guns fix everything." How can it not occur to you that, in the long run, they cause more problems than they solve?
#78 to #76 - ironsoul (11/17/2012) [-]
How can it not occur to you that taking away guns doesn't solve problems. You take away guns, suddenly all the criminals carry knives, and some have guns, seeing as how criminals aren't big on following the law. All the law abiding people no longer have a way to protect themselves. "well what about the police?" you say. Well, they can't be everywhere at once. AND HEY, THEY NO LONGER HAVE GUNS
User avatar #68 to #67 - ironsoul (11/17/2012) [-]
Why are they allowed to feel that they should be the one to pull the trigger first? Why am I, the law abiding citizen, not allowed to do that? if you have trouble getting by, why not move in with a friend, or back in with your parents?

Amendment 2 was written over 200 years ago when handheld firearms were basically miniature cannons. The founding fathers were not gods, despite what many americans might try and tell you, and so they couldn't see 200 years into the future. would they really have made amendment 2 the way it is if they had foreseen assault rifles, automatic pistols and submachine guns? and yet americans persist in acting like the constitution and bill of rights were written by the hand of god.

It's funny when people think we're actually a democracy...
User avatar #57 - spearpwi ONLINE (11/17/2012) [-]
The only logical reason I can think of that Americans should lose the guns is that they are just so damn gung-ho about it all. A lot of you talk about how you are disciplined and know all about gun safety and yet, the moment anyone talks about taking those guns away from you, you instantly start talking revolution and shooting anyone who wants to take them away.
User avatar #38 - gothiczombie ONLINE (11/17/2012) [-]
I know you will hate me for this but do you really think that trying to shoot the rapist is the best course of action? Remembering that it is as easy for the rapist to get a gun as it is for your daughter and if he sees her pulling out a gun(that she probably isn't an expert with) he would kill her.
I guess its your opinion whether its better to have a raped daughter with the possibility of aids or a dead daughter. Also there are non-lethal alternatives (tasers/pepper-spray)
#91 - anon (11/17/2012) [-]
Okay so pistols, and small caliber rifles are cool. Granted. But why the **** does anyone need AK47's with armor-piercing exploding ammunition? Answer: no-one. The only reason people would need to buy a gun is for self-protection from intruders and for sport. Small caliber rifles and pistols due the job just fine.
User avatar #96 to #91 - thirdasscheek (11/17/2012) [-]
Have you ever fired an AK47 with armor piercing exploding ammunition? I havent't myself but it sure seems like a lot of fun

Thank you for that, but surely some gun control would at least prevent more deaths.
Then again, an Englishman has expressed his opinion on gun control before,
needless to say it didn't end well.
User avatar #36 to #18 - biomedic (11/17/2012) [-]
I think most Brits just accept a life without guns now. I really don't feel the need for one. Maybe our nation is just a little more peaceful.

England is like an aging Jack Russel Terrier. It used to have the world by its balls but now it would rather sleep and scratch itself than hassle anyone. Mind you it can still be stubborn as **** so it's not over just yet.
#117 to #61 - IllpostThisShit (11/18/2012) [-]
Well said, the world by its balls thing would've been maybe 120 or so years ago.
So i find it surprising that after the whole "Most of the world is ours" and after we had calmed down a bit that we were still stubborn enough to claim the Falkland islands as ours, even though it is right next to Argentina.
Though I suppose we have Mrs. Thatcher to thank for that.
User avatar #54 - tehweirdkat (11/17/2012) [-]
While I think that more should be done to reduce crime, I don't think that guns should be legal. I find it astounding how happy someone would be to end someone else's life.
#55 to #54 - drunklmexi (11/17/2012) [-]
No ones "happy" to end someone elses life but if they are threatening the life, liberty, family etc. of others

People write and talk about it like they just don't care, to be honest, If somebody did break in and threatened to take something or hurt someone, most people wouldn't have the stomach to shoot them...
User avatar #94 to #56 - drunklmexi (11/17/2012) [-]
Your right most people wouldnt, and its a good thing. There are better ways to solve the problem other than violence.

Britain has a murder rate almost twice that of the United States, even though they have little to no guns.
User avatar #108 to #70 - CloseEnough (11/17/2012) [-]
Actually, the united states have a murder rate of almost four time that of the United Kingdom.
Then again, i'm sure you know better than the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime's latest study :)

Making guns illegal is pointless. If someone out there wanted to actually harm someone by shooting them and was deadset on doing it, or was just ******* psychotic, they aren't going to suddenly stop because it isn't legal...

Making heavy duty drugs illegal has sure helped stop them.
