For those of you saying he's not Schizophrenic, or that OP's mistaken, here's the wikipedia article. Just remove the spaces

http: //en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Louis_Wain

Picture unrelated.

"He has made the cat his own. He invented a cat style, a cat society, a whole cat world. English cats that do not look and live like Louis Wain cats are ashamed of themselves."

Deep.

This is actually in a text book I had for a health class, at least the first and sixth pictures. It was labeled as something along the lines of "A demonstration of the effects of schizophrenia has on perceiving reality".

Notice how the depiction of the cat becomes more demonic

I don't exactly remember, but I think this was a case study of an artist going through a mental health disorder and people cataloging his art as he progressed deeper in to the illness.

Schizophrenia is paranoia and hallucinations, it isn't drawing cats, drawing cats oddly, and then not drawing cats....

Schizophrenia is where the body can't control how much dopamine is being released into the brain. A person suffering from schizophrenia would most likely be more creative than they were before it developed

Actually, the opposite usually occurs with schizophrenia. In fact, lots of psychologists today are disputing the fact that Louis Wain had schizophrenia because, "his technique and skill as a painter did not diminish, as one would expect from a schizophrenic."

I have it and I can tell you now that I have not drawn crazy cats.

> At one point, he hoped to make a living by drawing dog portraits
>In 1898 and 1911 he was chairman of the National Cat Club.
>He felt that he helped "to wipe out the contempt in which the cat has been held" in England.
>He claimed that the flickering of the cinema screen had robbed the electricity from their brains.
>Wain's schizophrenia was precipitated by toxoplasmosis, a parasitic infection that can be contracted from cats

Well he certainly was an "interesting" fellow...
