Sorry for expressing an opinion online (gasp!), but i think that the Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes films starring him were pretty bad.
Iron man could be ok, being unrealistic is a feature of the original comic, but come on, 2 hours of witty jokes, no character development and bad acting?
About Sherlock Holmes, i wouldn't know where to start from.
Firs of all there's no fidelity to the books, then there's a steampunk ucronistic ambientation, then again there's Sherlock being a ******* inelegant twat (witty jokes and punny lines, again), no character development, no notable acting examples, no realism at all, and so on and on.
Many contemporary popular tv shows and films are popular because of the wittyness of the lines and/or the massive quantities of cgi action scenes (Big Bang Theory, How i met your mother, the avengers, iron man, sherlock holmes, bla bla bla), but all of these make them very artificial.

Well sorry for the eventual typos, i'm italian, but those are very common words, if you read litterature, especially sci-fi, fantasy, steampunk and so on.
Ucrony, discrony, distopy, utopy, blah blah blah, you'll find all these words on the Wiki "Steampunk" page.
"Ambientation"? Where do you live, in a shed in the mountains?
That's one damn common word, at least in italian.

I'm Norwegian. Being from another country is no ******* excuse for horrible grammar. Granted, yours isn't THAT bad, but don't try to seem smart when you can't spell correct. Also; Literature, one t. And no, ambientation is not a common word in the English dictionary. As a matter of fact, I doubt it's an English word at all.

Sorry, the double t's come from italian, we usually say "letteratura".
Doubles are a very common mistake, at least for italians.
As for the word "ambientation", google it.
    Common as hell.
And i'm not trying to sound smart, i'm trying to sustain my opinions with logic.

I'm not gonna discuss semantics on the web, also because i know that my means of expression aren't that good.
But yes, and quite a lot, actually, seing how people apreciate such mediocre (on an objective basis, taking in consideration various elements) films.

Maybe they are just fun to watch? You cannot think people watch superhero movies for the plot. We watch them to see them blow **** up, kick ass, and bang the hot actress. If I wanted plot, I'd watch The King's Speech or something like that.

Yep, and that's the sad part.
Everyone in the U.S. has seen The Avengers, but how many have seen No Country for Old Men? (this isn't a rhetorical question, i really don't know the answer)
Yet i can assure you that any human being with at least one pound of brain mass and/or more than 13 years would appreciate the last way more.
I like movies with stuff blowing up too, but if i want to watch one and still see a bit of plot and acting i'll go see a Bond movie, maybe the Batman trilogy, something made by Tarantino (ok, not always great plots, but still some great stuff), the Bourne films, and so on.
Btw i forgot to mention the Wolverine movie (the one with the ****** up Deadpool).
    God, was it badly done.

Well that was one hell of a twist, wasn't it?
Well damn, why wouldn't "a rich playboy super scientist" have feelings?
How does he develop, as a character, in the first film?
Does he start as "a rich playboy super scientist" without feelings?
Does the cinematic Tony Stark become less of an egoist prick, at the end of the film?
Does he realize that weapons are a source of suffering and stop producing them?
I'm not a great fan of superhero films, but can't you see the abyss between something like the last Batman trilogy (hell, even the Spiderman one) and the various Avengers/Captain America/Iron Man/Green Lantern/et caetera films?
    CGI and ******* stichomythia!

Would have given it a more serious protagonist (i remember the past Tony Stark, even in some animation series, being a bit less of a funny guy), i would have at least made him reflect upon the legitimacy of his actions, would have at least chosen a more serious story, maybe with some ethical dilemmas, the bad guy wouldn't have been so obvious (aw come on, the big bearded corporate guy, driven by greed? haven't we already seen that? couldn't it have been someone who suffered because of Tony's actions, or something like that?) and so on and on.
I'm not a great reader of comics, but i'm quite a literature and cinema addict, and i'll tell you, the character wasn't complex at all, that's why you can gather all his characteristics in the expression "rich playboy super scientist that can have feelings".

Then again, i have nothing against R. Downey Junior, he's a fine pal.

I know, that's the one of the biggest problems with taking inspiration from books and comics.
    Still, it's not an excuse.
The LOTR movie trilogy reached an very high visibility, many discovered the books just because of it, yet it was still pretty adherent to the original story (hardcore fans will say otherwise, i know).
Iron man wasn't, and neither was Sherlock.
Holmes as a street fighter, really?
