Does this fat dumbass thing Michelle Obama writes out the menu for every school in America? As far as I was aware Michelle did something like lowering the calories for school lunches, because a large proportion of Americans are overweight, which is true.

I hate fat people who dislike being fat yet complain when they don't get to eat junk food all day long.
They're not actually hungry all the ******* time, they just have a psychological addiction to eating, the simple way out of that is to stop eating so much, after about 2 weeks that addiction and subsequently the "hunger" goes away.

I get the feeling that she made lunches smaller because the US is the snack capital of the world, and a lot of the kids will be snacking throughout school breaks, and then after school, plus the fact that the American school day ends at about 3pm, they seriously cannot survive that long?

I'm glad that the Obamas actually have the sense to make decisions like this even if they aren't popular.
Fat people don't like their food being taken away from them? Well guess what, they will die younger than us healthy people.

I'm from the UK, and my school was one of the first in the country to bring in healthy lunches, all of the average weight, athletic, skinny people were fine and happy with it, but the fatties of the school all cried out for their chips (fries), and burgers and fattening deserts.
But guess what, that little change, that was ONE less fattening meal per day actually caused some of these people to get slimmer throughout the year.

Americans are overweight because Americans like to eat unhealthy food. I'm not aguing that and there is nothing that the government can do to change that. The only thing you accomplish by making schools have healthier food, is raise the prices of lunches to the point where students are bringing their own food from home which isn't regulated or going hungry. It doesn't help the problem and just pulls more money from the already underfunded school system.

I don't know how things are across the pond, but over here the schools aren't that great. Did you even see the picture? Its an 8 ounce carton of what looks like milk, a dinner roll about the same size as the carton and a small something wrapped in foil. For a gradeschooler that would be fine. But the picture was taken and posted by a highschooler. That no where near enough nutrition to be able to give the student the energy she needs to be able to even stay awake in class.

The Obamas should focus on trying to save our failing economy rather than on what kids are eating in school. It also isn't their place to mandate this. Its the parents of the children who should decide what their kids eat. Not the government.

Bascially I'm telling you to shut your flapping gob you limey twat.

The school system isn't underfunded. Per capita we spend more than any other nation in the world. The problem is most funding goes directly to various state testing and teachers salaries. And they still get paid ridiculously low. The problem isn't school funding, it's the school system itself.

They are literaly complaining about being hungry, becasue they won't eat fruit and veggies.

So we Brits have different nutritional needs than you Americans?
The UK has an obesity problem too, it's not like I'm from a starving country in Africa telling you that you should stop eating so much and send food to me.

And if you're a fat parent, who thinks it's okay to let your children get fat, you're a moron.
My kids will never get fat as long as they live under my roof, I'm an athletic person who holds a good diet, I like being healthy, I want my children to be healthy, you should too.

You do not have kids who are in school, I assume. You also have no basis for argument, in my opinion, because you can't possibly think you know this content is a good example of "US HIGH SCHOOL LUNCHES". I'm not going to even bother replying to your second part of your reply, because you simply do not know. If you don't have kids, your opinion of my parenting also means nothing to me.

I'm 20 years old, of course I do not have children, I never once stated that the lunch in the content is the "average american school meal", I merely stated that healthier meals are a step forward, and believe it or not, cutting down a huge fatty meal into a smaller, less fatty meal, makes it much healthier.

Your opinion is also stupid, for example, because I'm British, you have decided that I'm not a human who has the exact same nutritional needs as any American human of my age.

I actually have a very good understanding in the nutritional needs of children and teenagers, so just because I don't have my own children, doesn't mean I don't know what they need in terms of nutrition.
I also used to be a child, and judging by the condescending tone with which you're using to speak to me, I was a child much more recently than you were.

I never questioned your parenting, though I knew the parent of a fat child would read what I wrote as such. But fat children have a high risk of suffering from heart failure, which will kill your child, so maybe you should listen to other people for a change, you may learn something.

All right "guvnuh", I'll fill you in.

Yup, I'm American. I am 23 years old. I have a 5 year old daughter and another on the way. I am 6'4" and hovering around 215 pounds, and while the BMI says I'm overweight, I'm not a blimp. Where I live is southern Indiana. We are mostly small farming communities, full of nice, decent people- not too many disgustingly obese people. I can almost agree with you- fat people piss me off, but for a different reason. I pay for them to get fatter. They're too fat to work, so our government takes money out of my check to pay for their disability and food stamps. That's getting off topic though. My daughter is not at all fat, she has expressed interest in going to gymnastics, and I support it wholeheartedly. She isn't fat because she is at my side when I'm working around the house. She is adept at learning, and she refuses to lose or give up- even when I check my trail cameras, she tags along and I tell her all about wildlife- I show her what berries you can eat in the woods, we go mushroom hunting, and she is generally a remarkably healthy little girl. Heart disease and diabetes are high on both sides of my family, so I am quite aware of what extra weight means. My children are my weight goal- I don't ever want to miss a day with them because of being fat. I carefully limit what they eat as snacks and what we eat as a family because they don't need to be eating trash. Snacks are fruit, nuts, and sometimes vegemite. If she is really good, she may get a nutella and peanut butter sandwich. She is no Honey Boo-boo, I can attest to that. You are jut as human as I am- however, I'm sure British food and American food are quite different nutritionally because there are different government funded groups maintaining it. We have a small garden, and the neighbors also gave us any extra vegetables as well because they have a surplus of crop. Apparently I've run out of characters, so I'll end my rant here.

From everything you said there it sounds like you should be agreeing with what I said in my first comment, type 1 and 2 diabetes are also present in one side of my family, so I'm extremely interested in keeping healthy.

As far as the BMI goes, I'm considered overweight too for my age, being 6'3" and 13.6 stone (190 lbs) but I'm only 9.2 on body fat percentage. When I said 'overweight people' before, I really meant 'fat people'.

And we have the same problem in the UK with benefits given to obese people claiming to be disabled, and one way to lower that is to make kids eat healthier meals in school, this will get them used to eating healthy meals in general, even if their parents don't enforce it.

I'm glad your daughter is healthy and athletic, but I really don't get why you were arguing with me earlier, you sound like healthy eating for your family is important to you.

My argument stems from my conflicting views on who should raise children. Parents should raise their children, the parents should dictate what their child has eaten, parents decided how much of what food their child eats. Not the first lady, not the government, not anyone else. I had the opportunity to sit down with my little girl for lunch once, and I was appalled at the amount of food that was thrown away because the kids didn't want it. My girl is taught to clean her plate. Food is a gift, and should not be wasted. Even though she eats what she is given, she is still not fat. She eats her school lunch with gusto, but still not overweight. Kids get fat when they get home- It's the parent's fault for fluffing up their kid. You attacked school lunches, which are not the problem. It's parents having trouble telling their kids "no" that is the problem in America. So culling student lunches solves nothing, it is just another propaganda tactic for the kim jongistration (gov't, not school) to seem like they have our best interests in mind. My girl comes home hungry, but she eats, does schoolwork if she has any, we check it together, and then she does her chores and follows me with mine. Other people are ******* with how I raise my child, pardon me, but that is what pisses me off. Perhaps my anger is misdirected at you, but there are many factors that are seemingly never brought into consideration- when the life and health of a child are brought up, ignorance is hardly acceptable. My apologies for snipping at you, stranger.

Well, my reason for speaking the way I did against school lunches is simple really, at the High school I was at, before the healthy alternatives were introduced, the school lunches were basically just fast food, chips (fries), burgers, chicken nuggets, pizza, that sort of thing, and very very little vegetables.
It was like eating at a less tasty Macdonalds. Now, my point is that, fast food is nice to have now and then, but every day it's not a good idea, and it isn't healthy.

And what confused me about your points was, before the healthier meals were introduced, parents weren't happy about how their kids were eating at school, and they were pleased when healthy meals were enforced on schools, even though for a while their kids weren't that impressed.

That said, I am all for parents having their own prerogative about how their children are raised, and sure, the Government shouldn't be allowed to act on their own, but when I posted I naturally assumed that PTA comities, school comities, ETC, would have been involved in it.

On the parental side- no, the PTA has no involvement whatsoever. They shut us down every time. It's to the point now where we are linking together and we will provide sack lunches for the less fortunate kids, with parents permission, because we all feel that our kids are not getting the best they need.

Not disagreeing with you, I agree we need a healthy diet. All my school did was lower the bread rolls from 3 oz to 2 oz . But in my case, and many others, I don't really have food at home (some fruits, carrots, bread, canned beans, and eggs). All my meals are at school, besides a few times a week when my parents get take out.
So what I think is that we should leave the proportion alone, and get healthy, unprocessed food. But that's way to damn expensive, only private schools get the luxury of getting actual food.

Its funny. Ever since Obama got into office, my high school cafeteria started having less and less choices to pick from. First it was mainly fried foods that went, like french fries and stuff like that. Didn't mind it at all. Next year, we lost certain variations of foods. For example, we had cheese bosco sticks and pepperoni. Now just cheese. Didn't mind that much, but I was particularly annoyed for some of the things we lost and the slight price increase. This year, portions were cut down, we lost the soup pot that was out everyday completely, the salad bar essentially consists of lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers only, and prices were jacked up another $0.75 unless you took two sides of either fruit or vegetables and a milk. I'm honestly expecting during my senior year we'll have to pay twice as much as we did my freshman year for about 1/3 of what we normally could get. This is why I think its perfectly fine for people to be mad about Michelle to be playing with the menu at schools.

According to a study in The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), in 2008, the obesity rate among adult Americans was estimated at 32.2% for men and 35.5% for women; these rates were roughly confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention again for 2009-2010
I'm an american myself so...
But then again in England and Canada the obesity rate is roughly 1:4 Hell in mexico it's 30%

No I mean chase them and call them fat and make them run. Notice how it's healthy kids encouraging the crying kid with negative reinforcement? Look, they have done such a good job he is almost down to his healthy weight ;)
