Actually you can't conjure food out of thin air (or multiply it). Hermione tells Ron about it in The Deathly Hallows when he complains about being hungry. You can only summon food you already have stashed somewhere. Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration, bitches!

They talk about this in the 7th book, you can't create food magically but you can make more if you have some already.

I think maybe because once you digest it, it turns back to whatever it was originally or something
