Clint Malarchuk, well known for surviving a life-threatening injury during a game when another player's skate blade slashed his jugular vein, causing immediate massive blood loss. He didn't continue playing that game, but he did survive.

My brothers play hockey, and like tow years ago there was this HUUUUUUGE neck-guard controversy, and this incident was brought up. Next thing they knew neck-guard's were required to even practice.
