And I would have gotten elected, if it hadn't been for those meddling swing-states!

Seeing as only a small part of funding to PBS came from the govt; and the show would have been picked by another broadcasting station regardless...

Ill go away now.

Obama and Romney were originally friends, and this was a whole set up, but there could be no evidence...

Romney didn't have a job to begin with did he?
He holds no political office and he is no longer with Bain Capital.

Actually to be counted as unemployed you have to be looking for work. And hes a millionaire, so i assume he wont be working anytime soon.
User avatar #43 to #29 - wisdombranch (11/07/2012) [-]
Actually, the reason why he has a lower income tax than most is due to the fact that he collects NO SALARY. The entirety of his income is derived from investments which he manages to a personal profit.

He pays 15% or so in taxes. Income taxes for those who make $200k (salary money) is much higher. That said, you don't have to be making more than $50k a year to start investing... depending on your lifestyle choices.
#49 to #43 - mcbiggles (11/07/2012) [-]
That has nothing to do with my comment. i just said he technically wont be counted as an unemployed citizen. Not his taxes or income.
User avatar #58 to #49 - wisdombranch (11/07/2012) [-]
Hey... yeah. I kinda forgot to mention where I was coming from on that.

He is not looking for work--not because he is a millionaire--but because most of his entire income comes from prior investments. For him to get a salary would be far less than a bright idea economically as it would launch him into a much higher tax bracket.

He is ineligible for Unemployment, and is not counted in the statistic due to the fact that he is not looking for work, yet his status remains "unemployed" to the the nature of his failure to be employed.

Babies do not contribute to Unemployment, but technically they are unemployed.

My point exactly, thanks for adding more information to that.

I won't pretend I'm the most politically knowledgeable guy, but come the **** on guys, you learn in American Goverment 101 that the president isn't the be all and end all of political authority. Remember that South Park episode that came out the day after the 2008 election where everyone went hysterical about Obama winning? That's a perfect (though dramatized) illustration of how some citizens react to election results, not considering that this is not an autocratic state, presidents can't do whatever the **** they want, no matter who wins he'll still have three other branches (the public included, the often self-limited fourth branch) with whom he must work.

It's an imperfect system, but it at the very least prevents the sort of radical decline so many people seem to expect out of a certain president being elected. At the very least, remember that you still have a stake in how this country is run. Don't give me that cynical, "HAHAHA, THE PUBLIC HAS NO VOICE!" ******** , because if that were true how did pot just get legalized in my state and how has gay marriage been legalized in several other states? Those local amendments started at the public level. There are thousands of citizens who are active in their communities and make real change. The naysayers are only denying their own potential.

*state legalised- if a federal officer of some kind see's you, you'll still get arrested because it's against federal law- spread the word!!!

also- the system would be so much better if there were no parties, as George Washington himself warned against in his farewell address where he turned down being the president after oh so many times because he was tired. Granted, there would be problems that would arise from the lack of political parties, but there is a better way to solve it than to clamor to parties (which, what the hell? I'm not seeing any party going on here!?!?)
