The republicans once were a third party. They gained prominence when they put Lincoln in the presidency.

its all the media's fault. They just choose not to focus on them so uninformed voters (most of voters) never pay enough attention.

The way out political system is set up it's not possible to have more than two viable parties at a time. There would have to be a significant decline in republican or democratic voters, and then that entire portion of people would have to switch to the same third party. Honestly, the party system is flawed and shouldn't even exist, the politicians should run based on their own views.

I'll type them out for you!

3rd party is a strange term, because once they win an election they are really no longer a 3rd party. Anyways...

Original 2 major parties were federalists and anti-federalists (anti-feds morphed into the Democrat party of today)
3rd party victory when Harrison was elected in 1841, cementing the Whigs as a major party.
Another 3rd party victory when Lincoln was elected in 1861, causing Republicans to be a major party.

Theodore Roosevelt in 1913 received more votes than the Republican candidate, but split the vote causing Wilson to be elected. Bull Moose party was built around Roosevelt however, so disappeared when he disappeared.

Ross Perot in 1992 received 19% of the popular vote as a 3rd party candidate, leading to a split of the Republican vote and most likely causing Clinton to get elected.

Nader in 2000 running as a 3rd party candidate might have caused Gore to lose the election to Bush.

And there you go, a brief history of the impact of 3rd parties in US history.

3rd party candidates have won quite a few times actually.
Remember Lincoln? Yeah, the Republicans were a third party in 1860, when he created the party. Before that it was the Whiggs and the Democrats. Before those two parties, there were another two parties.
There have been many third-party presidents.

Well as usual OP is a fag, if you knew anything about history you'd know that a third-party candidate has NEVER won the election for presidency. The most votes ever won was by teddy roosevelt.

because no one believes a third party candidate can win because no third party candidate has won because no one believes a third party candidate can win because no third party candidate has won because no one believes a third party candidate can win because no third party candidate has won

damn man didn't op just go over this?
