This is why the guy from the Monster Raving Looney party should be elected.
It would increase the appeal of politics a thousandfold.

Not to start a debate or to anger anyone, but why do you think this? I am awful when it comes to politics so I wouldn't say I have an overall opinion on it; just wondering why you feel this way.

I'll disagree with them not aiding the country at all: Do they not provide some tourism? I know that isn't really special, but it does help us out.

Completely and utterly false. The royal family provides the UK with 200 million pounds every single year from revenues from the land that they own. It costs ~ 40 million pounds every year to maintain the royal family. If for some pointless reason we ousted the royal family, the UK would lose ~£160 million every single year.

The royal family are the legal owners of this land, so they would take the 200 million yearly revenue if for some reason they were deposed.

In this day and age they are literally paying £160 million a year for an honorary title and celebrity status, not a bad deal for the people IMO.

So we'd go from a center-left Harvard-educated lawyer to a center-right Harvard-educated businessman. With less charisma and more business experience. And a virtually identical foreign policy.

Sauron seemed a lot scarier in the movies.

At least Americans can choose who they want in charge.

Somehow we ended up with two bellends who nobody voted for.
User avatar #155 to #140 - shikurukato (11/07/2012) [-]
Well, we /think/ we can choose who is in charge at the presidential level, but the popular election is just a suggestive guideline to the electoral College.

Basically, the public says who they want, and the Electoral College makes the decision while taking that into account.

Pretty sure it doesn't matter who wins anymore. American government is on the road to becoming like the UK's, except our figurehead is elected by people who think the president actually has power anymore, and their figurehead inherits the title.

He lost 3 major battles and couldn't even kill a hobbit.
User avatar #31 to #8 - serotonin (11/07/2012) [-]
Did you see anyone killing hobbit? No? I tought so. Those little ******* are impossible to kill. There are only two hobbits killed in movies.
Just look at Smeagol. He had ultimate tool of evil for hunderets of years, he was captured by Dark Lord and traveled midle earth, made huge murderous spider his friend and kept on going no matter what.
Hell if we go by movie there are only two known way to kill hobit.
1)Get killed by other hobbit
2) Trow him in Mount Doom.
User avatar #34 to #31 - anonymoose (11/07/2012) [-]
Touché, but he still lost every major battle we see in LOTR.
User avatar #40 to #34 - serotonin (11/07/2012) [-]
Does he care? No. It is clearly said that his attack on Gondor was just vanguard of his army. It took all might of Gondor and Rohan just to stop that one army and he has many more. The reason why Elronds council descided to use hobbit super comandos to destroy the ring is that they knew that Elf/Human/Dwarf alliance has no chance of beating Sauron.
#43 to #40 - anonymoose (11/07/2012) [-]
You may be on to something. Gandalf chose Bilbo to accompany the dwarves in The Hobbit for similar reasons.

Now I see that Hobbits are overpowered.
User avatar #48 to #43 - serotonin (11/07/2012) [-]
List of other things that tried to kill a hobbit and failed
1. Smaug - Last of great dragons, bane of dwarfs
2. 9 black riders- Ring wraiths, most powerfull servants of dark lord
3. The one that lurks in the deep - ancient water monster
4. Shelob - Huge ancient spider that didnt know what pain was until it tried to kill a hobbit
Barlog tried to take a swing at them but didnt get a chance.
You just dont mess with hobbits.

I'm actually from UK, I have no f*cking clue what our politics (or any) are about. All I know is apparently David Cameron is a dickhead and Nick Clegg is his bitch.
User avatar #9 to #6 - shadesofbacon (11/07/2012) [-]
To be fair atleast David cameron doesn't let blatant corruption go on and he does seem to be more for england than Tony blair was.

Blair is Scottish, why would he give a **** about England, he was the British prime minister, not English.
And he didn't cause any serious riots in England, like Cameron did.

User avatar #101 to #12 - giblets (11/07/2012) [-]
Is it bad I'm studying politics and I didn't know Blair was Scottish

Also, BlairBrown did cause the riots by messing up the economy on a grand scale, it's similar to Obama in America, Cameron was given a ********** up situation, which he tried and failed to fix.

However, I'd prefer a Labour government over a Tori one.

User avatar #166 to #101 - defeats (11/08/2012) [-]
Blair was in for 10 years? It took longer than that to **** the UKs economy, and considering the entire world is currently in a recession, how can you lay blame on Tony Blair and Obama, they are set to lead the country, not make it's money.
Brown was in for about 3 years, he was basically a fall guy.
User avatar #168 to #166 - giblets (11/08/2012) [-]
It could be traced back to Thatcher, however, Blair got us into a boom during the 90s, and the cause of the 2008 rescission which caused the current one was Brown during his job as the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Although it is debatable.
Brown effectively allowed the economy to grow in an unsustainable way, imagine it as a bubble, it grows and grows until it reaches the point it is most full, then it pops.

To lead a country you need to also make it make money, otherwise you're not a very good leader.

When I was saying about Obama I was linking him to Cameron, as in they both got a messed up economy, but I disagree with the way that the Conservatives plan to get the economy going again.
User avatar #13 to #12 - shadesofbacon (11/07/2012) [-]
My mistake, when I said for england I meant for britain, and to be fair the london riots had been brewing for a long time you can't completely blame cameron for them.
User avatar #167 to #13 - defeats (11/08/2012) [-]
Yeah that's true, but the way he brought in the major tax increases, upped the Uni prices, trying to dismantle the NHS.
He's doing as any Tory party ever, and that's **** those who aren't rich, just like Romney planned tbh.
