A lot of artists that people think are terrible are just great when you get to their less popular music. I would argue that Fall Out Boy is one of the best bands of our time.
#122 to #107 - axlsummer (11/05/2012) [-]
Anti - Flag
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Enter Shikari
Foo Fighters
Jack Johnson
Jack White
The Mars Volta
Porcupine Tree
The Raconteurs
Scars on Broadway
Sublime with Rome
oooooh would you look at that, here are 17 artists that are releasing albums and touring and you can still enjoy them today! and there is so much more good music out there, it's your fault if you concentrate on the crap you that radio and other media shove in your face!

(replied to the wrong person) never said there wasn't any good bands. just ask that they back up their argument. I prefer electronic such as techno, chiptunes, and dubstep. also I am indie so I find some very original sounds. most of this wasn't in the past generations. so this generaltion is better with music. (in my eyes atleast)

if you dont like their music, dont listen to it. stop whining about how bad their music is and use that energy to find good music that you like.

I don't really hate any of those artists. I dislike most of their music, but no one forces me to listen to it. They might be assholes or bitches in real life, but that is always a risk, fame can ruin your character.

Also, some of them can even sing quite good, if they would change the kind of music they're making, they could do something pretty awesome. I kinda like the voice of Carly Rae.

It's their ******* retarded fanbases i can't stand.

In my opinion, Lady Gaga is a far better singer than Kurt Cobain. And yes, I will gladly take my red thumbs.
#55 to #48 - ledheadtlc (11/05/2012) [-]
You're forgetting that Kurt also played guitar and wrote the songs for Nirvana. I would be incredibly surprised if Lady Gaga composed all of her own music, if any.
#57 to #55 - bananajoe (11/05/2012) [-]
well as far as i know she writes her songs herself
she's also a talented pianist, if you dont believe me watch this
User avatar #59 to #55 - LiamNeeson (11/05/2012) [-]
Kurt had no real writing skills, he said it himself.
None of his popular songs had any personal meaning to himself whatsoever. People worship him as a diety for some reason though.
#74 to #59 - dctrpepper (11/05/2012) [-]
A. Kurt was incredibly depressed, and had very little self esteem. Evidenced by his suicide. He never thought he was that great, but everyone else did. Therefore him saying he has no writing skills has very little impact on the discussion of his writing skills.

B. All of his songs had meaning to him. He hated popularity, and therefore didn't like playing songs like "Come As You Are" and "Smells Like Teen Spirit", but they had meaning to him.

C. People love Kurt because his music was excellent (to a lot of people anyways), because he was an extremely interesting person (i.e. the famous guy who abhorred fame), and because he killed himself. And in the music business, if you die young, you're immortalized. (Joplin, Hendrix, Morrison etc. etc.)

tl;dr Kurt's a great writer and was super popular for a reason, thats just your opinion. And this is just mine.

2 things make a great artist:
1. Influence
Nirvana was incredibly original and influencial, whether their music was good or not they jumpstarted the Alt rock movement of the 90s and allowed most of the music that dominated the 90s (the offspring, pearl jam, green day , rhcp) to gain mainstream success
2. They write good songs
In my opinion and in many other peoples opinion he did write good songs, whether or not they had meaning to him, other people found meaning in his songs, and musically they are very very well made.

Gaga plays piano and writes her own music.
#72 to #48 - dctrpepper (11/05/2012) [-]
Well, maybe by conventional standards. But I love Kurt's rasp, and his lyrics are quite poetic. Lady GaGa is a pretty good singer, although I'm not a huge fan of her music.

If you get your music from the radio when we have the internet, you're seriously missing out because our generation is making some good **** . It's just too complex for the masses to be able to digest so its not on the radio.
