I think that The Big Bang Theory script consists of what stupid people think that smart people talk about.

I remember the audience exploded into laughter because Sheldon was playing Super Mario 64. No joke, no punchline, just some ****** playing Mario.

I'm positive most of the people watching it don't get any of the smart jokes, but laugh at the catch phrases and swear jokes.

You missed out the following:
Crappy joke filled with Indian stereotypes, "I can't talk to girls, nerds are socially awkward!"
"I'm a Jew who tries too hard with women, isn't my stereotypical Jewish mother so clingy?"
"We're the female characters, we're basically all the same because the writers of this show are so devoid of talent that they can't write a decent female role without relying solely on their sexuality, and making us foil for the male cast."
Sprinkle in some very broad "nerd culture" references (mainly Star Wars and LotR because the writers don't know anything beyond those) and you have your episode.

As Lisa Simpson once said, "You'll never go poor pandering to the lowest common denominator."

Actually the most reference show is Star trek and babylon 5, and before Big bang theory many of the comedy sitcoms were crap.
User avatar #93 to #58 - salari (11/02/2012) [-]
Arrested Development, Seinfeld, Freaks and Geeks, Friends (at least until season 5), The Office, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Frasier, Cheers, The Simpsons, Family Guy (seasons 1-3), Malcolm in the Middle, the list goes on and on.

If you think there weren't any good sitcoms until TBBT, you are sorely mistaken, especially since TBBT hardly qualifies as quality comedy. Note that I didn't mention any Chuck Lorre comedies in that list, that's because that guy produces some absolute trash. And HiMYM was good, now it's just dragging out a worn premise.
User avatar #96 to #93 - redscorpion (11/02/2012) [-]
I was talking about recent sitcoms, the 90's and very early 2000's was the last great sitcoms. most sitcoms that came out in the last 5 years weren't so great.
User avatar #107 to #96 - salari (11/02/2012) [-]
30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, Community, Archer, The League, Veep, Modern Family, The Venture Bros, Workaholics.

All made in the last five years.

User avatar #164 to #107 - newfalcon (11/02/2012) [-]
im not arguing with you, but how are archer, venture bros and workaholics sitcoms?
even 30 rock isn't really a sitcom. They are shows that are filled with comedy but they aren't sitcoms.
User avatar #187 to #164 - salari (11/02/2012) [-]
Because they're situational comedies, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you're under the assumption that a show can only be defined as such if they're in front of a live studio audience, but that's not the case. Those are studio sitcoms, but even then, they're usually shot to give the impression that they are filmed as live and laughter is added afterwards.

what about how i met your mother?

I belive it aired beofr TBBT, and it's a comedy sitcom. Check
User avatar #76 to #64 - redscorpion (11/02/2012) [-]
How I met your mother is on it's on Legen...wait for it.... Dary level of comedy sitcom, TBBT is like the modern version of Roseanne (I know it's the same creators)

The thing that aggravated me about the show is that it's supposed to be centered around nerdy characters, yet they never seem to discuss truly nerdy things for any length of time. Usually a minute or two is devoted to a nerdy subject at the very beginning of an episode, and then it's all about some relationship-between-characters BS that is the beef of any other ****** TV series.

It used to be special, nowadays its just an average sitcom aimed at the mainstream.
anyway I have a theory about how its gonna end:

*Amy is gonna confess her lesbian feelings for Penny, who rejects her, and this ends in Amy killing Penny and committing suicide.
*Leonard gets depressed because nobody loves him and he is a super betafag, so he also kills himself
*It becomes apparent that Sheldon IS indeed insane, and has been going on medication this whole time, but Amy has been stealing his pills(to try to make him love her), therefore Sheldon has become increasingly more insane eventually causing him to be locked in an insane asylum.
*When Howards mother dies, he divorces Bernadette and enters a threeway gay relationship with Raaj and Stuart.

Plausible?

^That, as well as

Literally the only reasons people watch the show. It really isn't that nerdy, which is cool if they want it to appeal to the general public.
But it should at least be funny.

The humor on that show is more clever than most sit coms on the air now, but they just don't use new situations... But no TV show really has in the past 20 years.

I don't think it's that bad, Sheldon can be annoying but then again he's kinda supposed to be. The only thing I hate about it is that damned laugh track, it's so unnecessary and it always seem to play on parts that don't even seem like actual jokes

There is no laugh track. It's filmed in front of a live audience
User avatar #184 to #182 - diablojoe (11/02/2012) [-]
Point still stands, it's obnoxiously annoying, it's not even like laughter in other shows, I swear it's louder.
