nuclear powerplants burn nuclear materials and make electricity, with radioactive nuclear waste as a bi-product. therefore pikachu is nuclear powerplant because he produces massive amounts of electricity but has to use nuclear power to sustain the electrical output. and therefore he produces radioactive nuclearwaste as a bi-product

How come noone gets that microwaves aren't radioactive? It's microwaves! Not alpha-, beta- or gammawaves! Stupid Dr. Oak...

well microwaves DO make a form of radiation, they produce non-ionising radiation, but since its non-ionising it shouldnt cause cancer

for ash to suffer from pikachu, he'd have to suffer electromagnetic hypersensitivity, and even with that disorder he'd only suffer headache, fatigue, tinnitus, dizziness, memory deficits, irregular heart beat, and whole-body skin symptoms
User avatar #152 to #142 - houmand (10/18/2012) [-]
Well, the term radioactive concerns radioactive decay - ionizing radiation. I made no claim that it wasn't radiation. By saying it's microwaves, I'm directly stating that it's radiation.

What I'm saying is: What are you trying to argue?

Also, electromagnetic hypersensitivity isn't even recognised as a medical condition. "The majority of provocation trials to date have found that self-described sufferers of electromagnetic hypersensitivity are unable to distinguish between exposure to real and fake electromagnetic fields,[2][3] and it is not recognized as a medical condition by the medical or scientific communities." - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_hypersensitivity

Go ahead and check the sources if you think the article fallacious.

Take your time and explain to me the point of your response.
User avatar #153 to #152 - konradkurze (10/18/2012) [-]
well there are some people who are affected by electromagnetic waves more than others, it may not be a recognized condition but it does happen

more likely id say that its a case of people who by family history havent been around electrical power sources much moving into modern areas that have high wave sources and their bodies dont like adjusting to it
User avatar #154 to #153 - houmand (10/18/2012) [-]
You're still not really bringing anything to the table here, mate. The post is about Ash getting cancer. Nothing about electromagnetic hypersensitivity. I mean porphyria is also a reaction to electromagnetic stimulation namely: sunlight burns your skin. People have different reactions to different kinds of radiation, but what point are you trying to make? I can't figure out the purpose of your initial response.
User avatar #155 to #154 - konradkurze (10/18/2012) [-]
well pikachu produces high electricity and in some level thus electromacntic waves, much like a microwave, and at worst with the constant close proximity to pikachu, Ash would be getting microwaved all day long, but that shouldnt cause more than the medical issues i mentioned before

User avatar #156 to #155 - houmand (10/18/2012) [-]
Mate, I'm not arguing whether Ash gets cancer or not. The idea was that Pikachu produces power through radioactive decay and thus emits alpha-, beta- and gamma rays. I was saying that the comment about calling Pikachu is a microwave is stupid. Microwaves aren't radioactive. Microwaves have the specific attribute of causing friction between water molecules, thus heating them. They don't cause radiation sickness, they don't give you cancer. They would boil you.

So, once again: What point is it you're trying to make?
User avatar #157 to #156 - konradkurze (10/18/2012) [-]

A microwave oven works by passing non-ionizing microwave radiation, usually at a frequency of 2.45 gigahertz (GHz)—a wavelength of 122 millimetres (4.80 in)—through the food.

your argument is invalid
User avatar #158 to #157 - houmand (10/18/2012) [-]
I said "Microwaves have the specific attribute of causing friction between water molecules thus heating them". Shoot beam at water, water vibrates, water gets hot.

The very article you're quoting says "Water, fat, and other substances in the food absorb energy from the microwaves in a process called dielectric heating. Many molecules (such as those of water) are electric dipoles, meaning that they have a partial positive charge at one end and a partial negative charge at the other, and therefore rotate as they try to align themselves with the alternating electric field of the microwaves. Rotating molecules hit other molecules and put them into motion, thus dispersing energy. This energy, when dispersed as molecular vibration in solids and liquids (i.e., as both potential energy and kinetic energy of atoms), is heat."
In other words: Shoot beam at water, water vibrates, water gets hot.

In no way, shape or form is my argument invalid.

And you still have not answered me what your point was in your original response. You have failed to answer that question three times now.

well i believe that i have answered your questions, youre just being an american and preaching rather than listening

you said microwaves arent radioactive, i proved they are, just NON-ionizing radiation,

overall the pic is contradictory, calling pikachu a microwave at the same time claiming he causes cancer, a form of oxymoron there

now take your sheldon cooper buthurt elsewhere
User avatar #160 to #159 - houmand (10/18/2012) [-]
First of: I'm not America. I'm Danish. And preaching would be one-way communication. I would have hoped that you'd picked up on the fact that I've been quoting you and debating your arguments directly. That means two-way communication. How else could I be correcting your false statements concerning radiation?

Second: Something that emits radiation is not radioactive. Visible light is radiation.

1. Spontaneous emission of radiation, either directly from unstable atomic nuclei or as a consequence of a nuclear reaction.
2. The radiation, including alpha particles, nucleons, electrons, and gamma rays, emitted by a radioactive substance.¨

An ordinary light bulb is not radioactive.
Radioactive is a term for radioactive decay: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radioactive_decay
This is also known as ionizing radiation.

Thirdly: It's just a contradiction, not an oxymoron. Oxymorons are terms that are seemingly self-contradictory, but actually have a meaning. For example: A deafening silence. It makes sense, yet it's seemingly contradictory.

Fourthly (my, I haven't said that before): You haven't explained to me what the purpose of your response was. Let me make it easy for you: What were you trying to accomplish by replying to my first comment?

User avatar #161 to #160 - konradkurze (10/18/2012) [-]
once again, for the mentally challenged, since repetition seems to assist in helping those with learning disabilities, such as yourself

You need to login to view this link

yes this has been a theme of you preaching because you refuse to accept the NON-ionizing radiation does exist hence its name and term

since it is non-ionizing, it does not cause the harmful effects that standard radiation does, and its effects are extremely minimal thus while being a form of radiation would not cause any cancers or carcinogens

now, please choose to understand this principle or choose to **** off
