All religions except the one that doesn't assert the existence of a god.

I think I see the problem here.

All religions, all creeds can be twisted to hate and intolerance.
Buddism and atheism included.

Yes, it is. Creed means statement of belief. Atheism is a statement of belief. I believe there is no God.

Atheism is a single position on a single issue, that of the existence of a god.

Theists assert that a god exists. An atheist, by definition, is anybody who is not a theist.

You are wrong, because you forgot that between theist and atheist there is also agnostic, who believe that existance of god is impossible to know one way or another.
And while atheism seem like a single position on a single issue, its actually a creed with entire set of beliefs that come from the first issue:
Is there a god - no
ergo
Is there any reason to pray - no
Does morality come from faith - no
Are there angels - no
etc.
As such, as wide encompassing statement of belief (simply a negative one) atheism is a creed.

Gnosticism is different than theism, though. Theism pertains to belief while gnosticism claims knowledge.

A gnostic claims to know whether a not a god exists while an agnostic does not.

So in other words:

Gnostic Theist = Claims to know a god exists.
Agnostic Theist = Believes a god exists but doesn't assert certainty.
Gnostic Atheist = Claims to know that no gods exist.
Agnostic Atheist = Doesn't believe a god exists but doesn't assert certainty.

And while it's true that the lack in a belief will likely lead to other non-beliefs that still doesn't make it any kind of creed and to assert that it does is an absurdly outlandish claim.

Atheism isn't a system of belief. Theism isn't even really a system of belief. It addresses one part of your system of belief.

Yes, but creed does not mean system of beliefs, creed means wide encompassing statement of belief.
If you make a statement of belief such as "I believe God does not exist" out of which all your other beliefs on faith come from that is a creed.

I'm just going to throw in my 2 cents. I agree with merrymarvelite. Atheism doesn't really have any positive existence so to speak. It's like cold just being the absence of heat or dark being the absence of light. Atheism makes no claims other than there is no supernatural God/gods. I don't see how this could form a creed. The starting point of our position isn't "there is no God so I......" because then we would have to include every other thing we don't believe into our decision making process; for example "there isn't an ethereal t-rex standing over my shoulder so I...". No, we begin with observable things like "the universe exists therefore....." and we can go almost anywhere from there, it depends on who you are.

TL;DR : lack of a belief can't make up a creed because of the number of things one might disbelieve. Naturally one doesn't take into account disbeliefs when making up a creed.

He was religiously tolerant and interested in learning philosophical and moral lessons from other religions. To do so, he consulted Buddhist monks, Muslims, Christian missionaries, and the Taoist monk Qiu Chuji

Clearly you haven't heard of the Buddhist genocides in Tibet, do some research before stereotyping a religion thinking if they meditate "they're probably peaceful and kind".

I've noticed a trend on this site. When christianity or jews are insulted it's all a laugh, sure some comments defend the religion but overall it's generally people laughing and agreeing. Though when Islam is insulted the 80% of the comments consist of, "why are you so ignorant", "this is insulting", cmon man you shouldn't say that". Now I don't know whether this is because majority of funnyjunk users are muslim, or everyone is afraid of insulting Islam/muslims. But goddamn people get over it, every religion is insulted, don't get so butt hurt when it is Islam or its adherents. And before people say "hurrdurr you're a bias christian", I'm not so this is coming from a neutral perspective.

Because thats how muslims are. I have experience of this ****, coming from the UK. They come over here and completely disrespect British values, they get offended when people say Christmas instead of winter holiday, or when people display the English flag on their cars or homes. And the annoying thing is, our government caves in to their ********. If a Brit goes over to the middle-east and doesn't respect their values he is killed or jailed. It's double standards at its worst, I have no idea why they get so much protection when they're in a foreign country.

Hello anon, i am quite a devout Muslim from the UK and i must say you are highly generalizing here. Neither myself nor a soul i know are like this, in fact when we see this stuff in the news its embarrassing to the vast majority of Muslims.
So please, try to judge without your head in the daily mail next time.

its because islam is the great religion that has adapted worst to modern society. Therefore muslims are afraid so they are in total defense mode, because the religion is so obviously oldfashined.

It's because muslims have that teaching to defend the insults towards Allah and the prophets. Why bother to insult them in the first place?
