I'm a full-time college student living at home and my parents have been bugging me to get a job. To appease them I applied for pretty much every job in or around my town, had a few interview, but no callbacks. My parents know that I've applied to a **** ton of places, but every once in a while they tell me to get a job or ask me why I don't have one and it's like they're stabbing me in the ribcage every time. Honestly, I wish they would go away. No one wants to hire a college student with no work experience, and in order to get experience then I need to get a job first, it's a vicious cycle. I'm considering selling some sort of service, like writing essays (I had a killer ninja star business in middle school,) but that won't help me get a job in the future anyway.
#47 to #38 - frink (10/13/2012) [-]
When you said "selling some sort of service" I was thinking of something different than what you had in mind ;-). Same thing is happening with me. I just got a job, but it is a temp job that already ends, the end of October. Also what a lot of people don't understand is that basically the minimum requirement to even get considered for just an interview is a two or four-year degree. It's sad that people who own the companies, couldn't even get an entry level job for their own company with their resume. (Like Bill Gates, who didn't even get a college degree, I consider having to actually finish college to get a degree and not an honorary B.S. ( ******** ) degree).

You might want to consider volunteering. If you volunteer, they often don't require anything and it would give you at least some experience.

Yeah, that's a GREAT piece of advice to give someone who is unemployed.

"Look son, I know you need money, so why don't you give away your time (the one thing you could use to make money) for FREE! No way that can fail."
User avatar #50 to #48 - thepalmtoptiger (10/13/2012) [-]
I have over 300 hours of community service (through my old high school's JROTC program,) I think I'm just an unlikable person.

I can't get a job because I have no experience because I can't get a job because I have no experience because I can't get a job because I have no experience because I can't get a job because I have no experience because I can't get a job because I have no experience because I can't get a job because I have no experience because I can't get a job. (Spam, but you get the point.) They want me to prove myself to get a bloody minimum wage or less job that requires no real skill but yet they demand it.

User avatar #49 to #46 - thepalmtoptiger (10/13/2012) [-]
Ideally I can get a part-time job and stay a full-time student, but I need to actually find a job for that.
User avatar #55 to #49 - infinitereaper (10/13/2012) [-]
I'm using the loophole of my father being in the military and jobs for civilian on military bases being rather plentiful, hopefully I'll land a full time GS job and make enough money school part time. I've networked with the manager, so I might be able to land a cashier job, though I may have to beef up my application just to get on the list, in fact I think I will do that.
#58 to #38 - DekuNut (10/13/2012) [-]
I also have tons of experience in retail and food business... and I apply to stoes aound that field. and Nothing. I get interview, ace them. and lol a potato gets it.

in my town 1/4 of the teachers lost their jobs due to budget cuts

most of them have a bachelor's in a specific subject and a master's in teaching (6 years of college)

jobs are hard to get/keep sometimes, son
#20 - anon (10/13/2012) [-]
There are loads of jobs. Just not jobs you deem yourself worthy for.

They are not beneath you. Just man the **** up, accept the job, and get off tax payers money.

If I can get a job any time I want and within a week of looking while at Uni to help cover my costs so can you.
#51 to #20 - CoolStoryBrosky (10/13/2012) [-]
Unfortunately, it's based heavily on geographic and cultural specifics. You need to see things through others' eyes, friend. This is the way.
