Fallout Wanders Edition(FWE).
It's on the Fallout 3 nexus(Google that, not sure on the actual address). I also recommend getting WMK(Weapon Mod Kits) for FO3.
I haven't played in over a year so the mods are probably improved a ******** . Damnit, now I want to play Fallout 3.

I mod so Fallout Wanderer's Edition (FWE) gives me the ability to breach a lock with explosives (if my explosives skill is leveled enough). That grenade comes in real handy.... that fat-man would kill you though.

Although the explosion also works as a sort of timed mine, the noise can alert people to your presence (FWE is to vanilla Fallout as Darksouls is to Skyrim, so death is easy to come by) and destroy items in a container, so you have to make a choice. Silent lockpick, or noisy explosive that can destroy items.

Of course you can ***** out and change the setting in the FWE Menu, but then you have to give up your "Badass Card."

Doesn't Fook2 do the same thing? I have that and it allows me to do so. I guess those overlapping features are why Fook2 and FWE don't play well together.
#138 to #92 - justakewldewd (10/10/2012) [-]
Overlapping textures? Oh lordy, I'm getting that at Megaton with the textures you see from far away overlapping the textures you see from close up so you just see a big grey blob. Might be because of "Fallout Remastered" but it happens so rarely I don't bother re-installing the Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch. Anyway, Fook2.

Fook2 does do many of the same things, but FWE is more mod friendly. If you only want more of the vanilla game, i.e. weapons and armor and so forth, go with Fook2. If you want better mod compatibility and a drastically changed game experience, go with FWE. I've been told they don't play well together but there is something you could try.

You could check out FOIP, or Fallout Inter-Operation Program, which can help make big mods work together. I think I saw a FWE and Fook2 patch somewhere in there. Go to fallout3nexus and search for FOIP and you should find what I'm describing.

What. Explosives saved my ass many times. I do play ultra-realism on the PC though.
User avatar #60 to #57 - wheredawhitewomen (10/09/2012) [-]
I mean explosive weapons are fun and satisfying. Blowing up stuff with a fat man is pretty amazing, but actually putting points into the skill? Nah...
#98 to #60 - pencilartist (10/09/2012) [-]
The Fat Man is under the Big Guns skill, not explosives.

That being said, I thought it was a joke parodying that.
#106 to #98 - wheredawhitewomen (10/09/2012) [-]
Oh yeah, that's right. Fat Man goes under Big Guns in 3 and Explosives in New Vegas.

I've been part of the minority who enjoyed New Vegas a bit more than 3, so I'm still stuck in that mindset of how the skills work.
User avatar #126 to #106 - lastofthedovakhiin (10/09/2012) [-]
I hated how New Vegas hit a dead end after you beat it. I got so many good supplies from the dam and they all just disappeared.

User avatar #109 to #106 - pencilartist (10/09/2012) [-]
Ha, I'm stuck on Fallout 3 right now.
I actually liked New Vegas, but not until the add-ons came out. Before that, the gameplay just bored me.

I think the best version of fallout would be taking Fallout 3's story and incorporating NV's weapons, enemies, and game mechanics.
User avatar #112 to #109 - timbittwo (10/09/2012) [-]
By the way, you can do that on the PC. I believe the mod is called, "Requiem for the Capital Wasteland". They may have changed the title since then. I never got it seeing as it requires 10Gb of hard drive space and I only have five left.
User avatar #117 to #112 - pencilartist (10/09/2012) [-]
Oh snap, really?

Huge space eater, but it seems like it would be great. Fallout 3's story was amazing, and Fallout New Vegas had the greatest weapons and game mechanics I've seen in the Fallout series. Thank you for informing me of this, thumb for you.
User avatar #119 to #117 - timbittwo (10/09/2012) [-]
Basically what it does is it adds the Capital Wasteland as well as storylines accessible in New Vegas as a new area. I believe it was a sewer that you had to go through to get to the Capital Wasteland.
You do have to own both games though.
User avatar #125 to #119 - pencilartist (10/09/2012) [-]
That's really cool, actually. I've got both games, so this would be a great way to enjoy both of them at the same time.

Probably requires fantastic PC specs though.
User avatar #132 to #125 - timbittwo (10/09/2012) [-]
Doesn't require anything better than the ability to play New Vegas.

The Explosives skill governs the ability to use all mines, grenades and Explosives skill based weapons (excluding missiles and mini nukes - see Big Guns).

The higher your skill, the higher the damage you inflict. The Explosives skill also affects the distance and accuracy of a thrown bomb (e.g. frag grenade, pulse grenade etc.)

The players Explosives skill determines how close you can get to mines before it detects you, as well as how long the mine will take before it explodes. There does not appear to be a minimum Explosives skill necessary to disarm a mine, so long as you can run up and activate it fast enough.
