I've always been curious. What's the angle for?

*Hypothetically* I imagine the angle is to take the photo as if it was being seen with the eyes of the photograph. For example you see a beautiful landscape, and you want everyone else to see it the same way you do on that moment, you'd position the camera where your eyes would be. (this is if there is no zoom on the camera)

Or it could be just because they like strange poses when taking a shot

just my opinion though
