x = troll's wallet. (Let's assume he only has $50)
y = partner. (assume he has only $20.)
n = box.
z = troll's money.
20y + 20z = 40n, but consequentially 50x - 20z = 30x and the partner, 20y - 20y = 0y
30z + y = 30y, but consequentially 30x - 30z= 0x
When troll receives the box: He will receive 40 dollars. 40n + 0x = 40x
Partner receives $30. 30z + 0y = 30y.

troll would lose $10, while partner would gain $10. This would work better as a scam.
#21 to #4 - anon (09/29/2012) [-]
You could just say your friend is putting $20 in initially then paying $30 later for a net loss of $50, and only gaining $40. So your friend loses $10 and you gain $10, not a bad deal.

in reality the guy selling the box makes $10 and the buyer loses $10...Guy 1 gives $20 makes $30...Guy 2 gives $50 only gets $40 back (whats in box)

Assuming they both start with $50
User avatar #28 to #26 - darkstone (09/29/2012) [-]
they both put twenty dollars each in the box, right?
Then the other guy buys it for 30 dollars. He has now paid 50 dollars for a box containing 40 dollars. He loses 10 dollars and the other guy makes a 10 dollar profit.

It may help a bit, putting the magnifying glass that concentrates the light onto the panel, wouldn't it mean that the panel is able to absorb more light?

Still the same amount of light, just in a smaller space.
User avatar #73 to #72 - Icedangel (09/29/2012) [-]
Unless the glass is larger than the panel?

I have no idea, I can't even pretend to grasp how solar panels work.
User avatar #74 to #73 - Cookiez (09/29/2012) [-]
While im no expert, i think it would be possible to make the solar panels more compact the way you describe it, therefore making more energy if using teh same space, but then you would need a huge magnifying glass.
User avatar #75 to #74 - Icedangel (09/29/2012) [-]
Perhaps, is the solar panels were housed in the trunk and the top of the trunk was the magnifying glass? Mirrors could also prove to be useful.

Of course, that would mean you'd have less storage space, unless you converted the hood into a battery area.
User avatar #78 to #75 - Cookiez (09/29/2012) [-]
Yeah, but the part thats wrong in the comic is that with 3 glasses you magnify the light by 1000, you would actually have to concentrate teh lgiht from a area thats 1000 times bigger into that one panel for it to work.

User avatar #89 to #56 - basilbrush (09/29/2012) [-]
Taking into account that portals don't exist but looking past that small problem, the only problem with perpetual motion is friction. The watermill would eventually grind down because of the friction of it constantly moving, meaning it is not truly perpetual. Also the water would slowly get evaporated, so after some time there would be less water until it's all gone.
#86 to #56 - anon (09/29/2012) [-]
The energy required to keep the portals open would probably outweigh the energy created by the generator.
#92 to #56 - jaevel ONLINE (09/29/2012) [-]
Seeing how GLaDoS says that a handheld portal gun costs the same as an entire city(Residents included) So is it probuably the costs it would make to build a portal gun far over budged. however, if we follow the instructions of infininte money that they show on the start of this content, so will we probuably have enough to make HISTORY!

I finally figured out why the first one doesn't work.
They both start out losing $20
(Friend 1 & 2: -$20)
Then Friend 2 loses $30 more. (Friend 1 -$20 Friend 2 -$50)
Then Friend 1 gains $30 and Friend 2 gains $40
Which leaved Friend 1 with a profit of $10 and Friend 2 with a profit of -$10

This takes effort? Its basic math, anyone older then 10 should be able to do it with ease.
User avatar #52 to #49 - Nameloc (09/29/2012) [-]
Not really, because most people skip the extra step:
Friend 1 (F1) is -$20, Friend 2 (F2) is -$20
Box (B) is +$40
F2 gives F1 $30 for B which is $40
F2 is -$50 - This is the part people skip
F1 +$10, F2 -$10

If you skip that one step then it'll be:
F1 +$10, F2 +$10...

1. What apatheticdemon said
2. That one is ridiculous
3. This one would work if portals existed
4. There is still gravity on, plus the rocket/sub/whatever has much more mass than the magnet so the magnet would be the one that was actually pulled on
5. Obvious enough
6. The amount of water and the diameter of the tube is too large.
7. No idea, can someone else do this one?
User avatar #140 to #112 - mrawesomepotato (10/01/2012) [-]
Thank you for making that easier, but I was just saying for all troll physics/science comps. I know none of those wouldn't work. But there are a few other ones where I consider it to work.

User avatar #142 to #141 - mrawesomepotato (10/02/2012) [-]
Oh I can't name a few off of my head. But there was one about buying gold close to the north pole, possibly on an elevated surface where gravity has less of an effect, and then selling it on the equator way closer to the earth's core where the gold weighs slightly more, and selling it thusly more. Possibly getting profit? Thats just one.

Two people stick 20 dollars each into a box.

Person A buys the box for 30 dollars. Since he was already at -20, he is now down 50 dollars and it goes back up 40 when he takes the money out of said box.

Thus the person buying the box lost 10 bucks.
