Ah, yes! Good ol' funnyjunk logic. The death of 12 is funny, the death of hundreds is hilarious, the death of 4,8 milion is comedy gold, but the death of a single person is the biggest ******* tragedy since they cancelled House.

I actually completely agree. They go on to rationalize it like "we didn't know the million on a personal level so it's fine to laugh" but the thing is: each of those millions of people dead has a story just like this guy, you just don't take the time to find them out. I don't normally care how people react to things, but when they make jokes about the deaths of many people they are just being hypocrites to then act like they give a **** that this guy's friend is dead. Either you value human life, or you don't. But drop they "oh now I all of a sudden have feelings" act.

The reason that the death of a single person is more tragic is because there is a level of intimacy that that adds. It is easy to sympathize with the death of someones best friend, because hell, that could have been your best friend. It is however easier to see irony and generalizations in the deaths of many. It is nigh unto impossible to sympathize on such a personal level to deaths in that number.

Logic. Use it.

Single, armed US soldier with a pretty good fighting chance dies - tragedy.

I'm willing to bet my left testicle that hardly anyone would give a flying **** about mr. 6 feet under if he were muslim, african or asian. Besides, there are many cases when the death of one wasn't a tragedy. Take Osama for example, we don't see any comemorative posts about him, do we?

Then shouldnt we be thanking him? Almost everyone just agreed that the death of many is not something we can "relate to" making it something we can laugh at. So in that sense he did us a favor. And what if you didn't know what he did? It's hard to imagine, huh? You know, the worm food over there could have shot at palestinian kids for fun all day and accidentally got crushed by the collapsing orphanage he was blowing up for all we know. The fact remains that we don't. All we know is that it's a dead soldier, nothing more, nothing less. Still, people just assume he was a ******* saint when he was alive.

You seem to be the only one of shares this view....Personally, I think your point is stupid. As a user has said;
The death of a single man is a tragedy. The death of a million is a statistic
Placing Osama into the role of one is plain odd, but I am willing to bet, 1000s thought of it as a tragedy. Had he died with the 1000s of followers, then no one would give a ****.
You aren't really using logic here.

I'd love to explain to you why you're a hypocirte, but this argument kind of lost it's appeal after the initial 2 guys decided to be smart and left.

Quick question, though. Since we'll be using overused quotes, "If you kill one man you're a murderer, if you kill a million you're a hero, if you kill them all you're a god." Who don't people worship people like hitler as 4.8 heroes?

I'm a bit tired, so I may have misunderstood what you just said, if so, my bad:

I can guarantee that the likes of Hitler had a vast amount of people worship him, and I'd bet, still do.

My point is, in face that you do see the person that that death has effected. Sure you can see many people in tragedy's like Hurricane Katrina, or the one that hit Japan, but you don't know what their story is. Now, if you read an article about an individual that was effected by those tragedys you get to know who the dead are and who was effected by those deaths.

I'm not sure if you got the reference or not but it doesn't matter. What I want to say about this is: if there's nothing that can evoke the feeling of sympathy, no one gives a ****. i.e. soldiers dying on the battlefield. But if there's an incentive like the back story OP gave in this content, it makes it a whole lot easier to have the feels.

On my 11th birthday me and my daddy went for a walk by the sea, and later went to mcdonalds like the best pals we were (I had no mom) later on I came to the living room.
He was sleeping with some beer poured between his legs and his hand on his chest.
I kept trying to wake up but nothing happened.... not to get angry or anything, but he had A ******* HEART ATTACK, AND THAT BEER WAS HIM PISSING HIMSELF! AFTER THAT THE ******* PIG POLICE TOOK ME TO THE ORPHANAGE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE! Now I have some amazing parents with lots of love. But my daddy will always be in my heart... forever.
