I work at two jobs: the movie theater cleaning the place EVERY DAY, and Casey's (a gas station/convenience store) where I make pizzas and deliver them and **** . I get paid minimum wage for both jobs, but do you know why I do it? It's not because I couldn't get hired anywhere else. It's because they're the only places I have ever applied to. Well, I also did 2 years of detassling...
Why am I okay with these jobs that pay me minimum wage?
Because I get bored just sitting at home. All I do is play vidya games, and while that is the thing I enjoy most and would rather be doing more than anything, sometimes I just want to leave the house and do work. Also, according to both my bosses, at the theater I clean better than anyone has ever done so before me, and at Casey's I was the only delivery person to ever have people who I have delivered tell my boss how nice I was and **** .
And holy **** , I just figured something out about my life: I'm not creative, I have no abilities that I would consider useful in this working world, but maybe my talent or whatever the **** you want to call it is my work ethic; I hate to leave a job unfinished and I hate to leave anyone unsatisfied.

TL:DR I get paid minimum and like it.

I work at casey's too man, but we don't deliver. I'm the same way. I didn't have my first job til I graduated at 18, and my brother (guardian) moved away so I had to get my own place. I tried a factory out making 15$ an hour, but I quit after 9 hours because the work sucked and it just wasn't for me, everyone was always stressed out and unhappy and tired. I got a full time job at Casey's and I'm going to college full time. I'm my boss' favorite because I like my job and do it well. I'd rather work here making minimum wage than be unhappy making almost double. I used to do nothing but sit at home playing xbox, and I hated the thought of working, but it's really not that bad. The only part I dislike is having mass amounts off crackheads come in from the low-income apartments behind our store

User avatar #9 to #7 - lucidria (09/26/2012) [-]
It's not really that I enjoy it, per se, but more like I have nothing better to do. It's more like I was too lazy to check around town for "better" jobs. Although, the circumstances involved in these two are actually somewhat interesting:
I applied at the theater because I kind of always wanted to work at the movie/game rental place (next door and owned by the theater), but the only opening was janitorial, which I'm fine with since I'm pretty much the only person employed by that business that gets paid minimum; everyone else gets less because theaters are exempt form that law.
For Casey's, my friend tells me that he gets paid quite a bit in tips and such delivering for Pizza Hut and Casey's literally only started delivering pizza about a week before I applied. I rarely deliver (though that should start to change because apparently I'm "good at it") and instead make/cut/box the pizzas and stock the coolers and such, but when I do, I usually make $20-40 in cash every night that I do, both in tips and the fact that delivery people get paid $2 for every single delivery to pay for gas.

Blah blah blah, I don't "enjoy" my jobs, but I also have no problems with them.

Plus it's kind of funny going in to clean the theater at 3 in the morning and watch cops drive by and imagine them thinking "What the **** is he doing there at this time?..."
User avatar #13 to #9 - CyrilKeir (09/26/2012) [-]
I'm 23, and I am a delivery driver for Pizza Hut. Have been for a while now. In college for psychology, however.

People rag on me for it- But show me another job where I put in barely any effort, and yet still go home each night with about $100 on average in cash, not including hourly. It doesn't happen. It provides for a NICE two bedroom condo for me and my wife, and I really don't have any responsibilities.

I figure I'll have enough responsibilities when I finish my degree. Why not enjoy life, make good money, and not work too hard while you can?

TL;DR version: I work at Pizza hut as a driver, make bank, and am happy with it.
User avatar #60 to #13 - KillYourself (09/27/2012) [-]
is your car insurance higher then?
User avatar #65 to #60 - CyrilKeir (09/27/2012) [-]
It would be, if I told my insurance that I deliver for a living. HAH. As if. :D

As long as you don't tell anyone if you get in a wreck that you were delivering, you'll be fine. Say you were "going to work". Call the manager, they'll take care of it. If you have your topper on, take it off before the police get there. Even if you DON'T, the police don't put that in the report, so your insurance wouldn't know.

It's a small risk, but meh.

What is really incredible here is that you are an average Joe, and you are completely okay with it.
Instead of whining about your 'crappy jobs' and 'crappy pay' without really doing anything about it, you take pride in it and enjoy it, resting in who you are and what you do.

There are far too few people like you.

I worked at KFC when I was 12, never felt bad about it, now that I'm 16 I wouldn't feel bad about it either. At least I'm making money and contributing to society, it might be a small contribution but the world could survive without high paid bankers (it has before, although our modern life styles would be very different, but we would live), peons are and always will be an essential part of society.

What's wrong with making hamburgers? That's somebody's burger he's making. That's an honorable job. What's wrong with fixing somebody's car? Someone can get to work the next day because of me. There's honor in that.
User avatar #77 to #74 - rhc (09/27/2012) [-]
honor's got nothing to do with how people pick their jobs. it's what makes you happy, combined with whether it gives you the amount of money you want, that matters.

I wish I used my bank account..I wait tables so I always get cash and just never put it in the bank. People can talk **** on servers, but I make between $12-16 a night. It's good money and I'm able to make a lot that goes untaxed too. I wish I didn't have bills or anything. Then again, maybe it's a good thing because then I'm not blowing it on tattoos or stupid things..
