Neighbors have a mini-river thing in their yard for looks and for the sound, but the top puddle never fully circulates, it's been hell all summer

i suppose the introduction of Eastern Mosquitofish would be a nice addition. They reproduce incredibly fast and they do an excellent job of eating larvae. I've got them in my pond and the make babies faster than anything i've ever seen.

yeah but as soon as you take away the barrier, the grass is gonna get waterlogged anyways and will die. Unless it was already a swamp plant, then it could've done without the barrier to begin with

shrug I have no idea what kind of plant it is. If it's a swamp grass, then you don't need the barrier. If it's not, then it's going to get waterlogged and die within a couple days.

Either way, the barrier or the design is messed up.

Perhaps the barrier just holds the soil in place for the other plants to grow in, to create different depths of water.

I don't think the barrier was taken out.

You just can't see it because plants are over it. I think I can actually see parts of the barrier.

I think the barrier was kept there to stop the wall of dirt from collapsing, otherwise the plants he put in there would collapse with it and get submerged.

The barrier is to keep extra clay in that area so that the plants don't have so much water pressure on their roots and to keep them at a particular elevation.

Maybe so you can see the grass?

It looks pretty short so if you planted it from the bottom it would get
covered and whatnot so it would make sense to put more dirt on that
side and a barrier so it won't slope away.
