did he just say something to the sargeant without starting and ending it with "SIR"?
User avatar #37 to #9 - zombifier (09/23/2012) [-]
sir sandwich doesn't exist in the Marine Corps.
User avatar #15 to #9 - faithrider (09/23/2012) [-]
should be sergent, doesn't require both ends, and Sir is for officers only
User avatar #29 to #15 - TheExile (09/23/2012) [-]
Unless you are in the Air Force or Navy. In both cases, "Sir" is appropriate for Enlisted or Officer.

Source: I'm AF, best friend is Navy. Been in for about a year.
User avatar #64 to #29 - choasmage (09/23/2012) [-]
I'm Navy Enlisted and if you call me sir I will murder you. Enlisted hate being called sir.
User avatar #165 to #64 - TheExile (09/23/2012) [-]
Really? My friend has been in for around a year, and he calls people sir all the time, and they call him sir. But, they are stationed on an AF base, so maybe that has something to do with it. Or it could just be his Unit
User avatar #175 to #165 - choasmage (09/23/2012) [-]
I've been in for far over a year, and trust me. We don't appreciate being called sir. If they're e-4 though e-6, they are petty officer. e-7 is a chief, e-8 is senior or senior chief, and e-9 is master chief.

The only thing I kept thinking was "Why is he wearing his cover indoors..."
User avatar #32 to #31 - TheExile (09/23/2012) [-]
Because he's a DI. They can do whatever the hell they want. Lmao
User avatar #33 to #32 - carlosthehobo (09/23/2012) [-]
We actually had a instructor get mad at us for not telling him when he did **** he wasn't supposed too
User avatar #34 to #33 - TheExile (09/23/2012) [-]
Yeah. Our MTI's at Basic would purposely screw up their uniform, and his rule was be better not make it to his office without someone noticing and correcting him. When you correct you, you also had to know the AFI he was breaking. Sucked since his office was only ten feet from the door lol

This case s different, because it's USMC recruit training at either San Diego or Parris Island. They refer to all DI's as 'sir' during training.

A drill instructor and a drill sergeant are the same thing, just different name and branch. Drill instructor is the Marine Corps, and Drill sergeant is the Army. Most immature people will blindly say that the Marine Corps drill instructor is tougher and meaner, but they haven't been through BCT. Oh and I understand why they'd get pissed if you mix the names up.
