I think it's that episode of South Park where Cartman travels to the future to get a Nintendo Wii, and finds out that the atheists are in some kind of great war .. Cannot fully remember the episode

Here's the thing-
Religious folk poke at atheists all the time. It never really upsets us though. Mostly because their jabs make no sense to us. Its tough to make someone feel bad about God hating them or going to hell when they don't believe in either. Its like telling a gay man he can go suck a dick. Really he's just thinking ".....ok".

On the other hand, religious folk are a source of endless entertainment to an atheist. First off, they believe in magic sky people and other such nonsense. What that call "devout" we call a 30 year man who still believes in Santa Claus. So many jokes, so little time.
Secondly, its just so easy to set them off. Like poking a badger with a stick. Usually just the mention that your an atheist sets off an applause worthy rant. Its like, secretly, deep down, they know its all complete ********. So they NEED you to believe to validate their own imaginary world, otherwise they feel like a complete asshole.

So you see, its really a never ending cycle. Well...almost. Religion in general is on its way out. Thank the internet. The enemy of religion is information, and as information becomes more and more easily available to absolutely everyone, there is simply less need for an invisible old man with a penchant for voyeurism.
Atheists really don't need to do anything more than we've always done- sit back and laugh.

I'm a religious person, specifically a Christian (but wait, don't thumb me down just yet!)

There are many points in your comment I'd like to argue, but I dont have much time so I'll just address one. That one is in your last paragraph, where you claim that "religion is on its way out", and that "information is the enemy of religion"... where do you base those assumptions? I remember reading a recent Gallup poll about religion in general, and it said that (at least in the U.S.) more people than before claim to believe in a God or gods, if not an organized religion. Also, about the information thing, that's a stereotype- that religion is diametrically opposed to science, which isn't true! They're not just not "enemies", they're not in the same category. Religion can't replace science in the ends it tries to achieve, and science can't do the same for religion. You can't find "salvation" under a microscope, if you want to look for it. The Vatican always keeps track of important scientific acheivments, not so it can try to obscure them but so it can learn from them!

And also, "claiming that the internet if a pure vessel for reliable information is just ridiculous." Abraham Lincoln said that quote, it's true because I read it on the internet once.

Its tough to make someone feel bad about God not existing or reason overpowering faith when they don't believe in either. Its like telling a gay man he can go suck a dick. Really he's just thinking ".....ok".

Its just so easy to set them off. Like poking a badger with a stick. Usually just the mention that you're a believer in God sets off an applause worthy rant. Its like, secretly, deep down, they know that maybe they could be wrong. So they NEED you to believe to validate their own opinions, otherwise they feel like a complete asshole.

So you see, its really a never ending cycle. Believers really don't need to do anything more than we've always done- sit back and laugh.

It's funny how you can turn this around and it could still be true. You know, telling me that god doesn't exist and that i beleive in fantasies is the equivalent of a religious person telling you you're going to hell for not beleiving in god. Because either way, you make yourself sound like you know these things for sure and everyone else should believe you. So thanks for sounding like an idiot on the interent and opening the eyes of Atheists who act in this same, hypocritical way.
And in this post I am not supporting religion nor bashing atheists, just trying to say that honestly he didn't derve thumbs for saying something that definately would of gotten thumbs down if it had been turned around and said by a Christian/Muslim/etc.

You'd be surprised at how many intelligent Christians could disprove that what you just said.
For example; i'm the most tolerant, open-minded Christian you'd ever meet. I'm open for discussion about pretty much any topic. If anything, Atheists are the least tolerant people out there as they are picky about issues and immedietly shut down all discussion if the topic of wether God exists or not shows up.
And I do get irked on how atheists poke fun at random sacreligious **** that happened hundereds and hundreds of years ago. Yet every one of you poeople seem to forget the good we've done in this world; or what God has done through us. And the fact that Christianity played a giant role in founding the US, as it held the colonists together and gave them strength to fight. As well as in modern days, athiests seem to think that all Christians are garbage. You constanly dismiss us for being idiots who are full of baloney. Whatever Christians you people talk about bring shame to me as well. I'm so upset at how some Christians can resort to such measures
The reality is, we believe in God for reasons that are true to us. I personally believe in him because I've been healed multiple times and I've seen all sorts of prophetic words become real. It's "just a coincidence" to me, it's an actual physical experience that you can't explain to me how it works.
probably my longest comment ever.

While I do agree with the first paragraph let me say just a few pointers.

While I myself am not religious you could easily find offence in the term "magic sky people" Religion while in some cases is a form of idiocy it is also a support system if you will. People bond and make friends over this. To me it is no different then bonding over a mutual fandom/likeness of a show/book. Only they think it's real. There are very easy ways that religion and science can co exist and the knowledge science gives people can be easily translated through multiple interpretations. I say this purely because your argument can still have potential without starting a religious **** storm in the future. If you want people to be respectful of your beliefs then you can't go insulting theirs.

God =/= Religion. Christianity as it stands isn't very valid as it's been proven wrong so many times. If you want allegorical stories read Aesops fables as they have excellent morals. If you treat the bible at face value then you are denying much evidence. If you believe in god fair enough, but you don't need to be part of an organised religion.

God doesn't equal religion, but most religions have a god of some form, or someone who performed miracles. yes, there are exceptions, but they ain't the norm. The very idea of christianity kinda can't be proven wrong. An all powerful being could choose whether or not we have any concrete evidence of the all powerful being existing.

While I agree, it does seem as though Atheists are more hateful toward religion, I'd like to draw line here. Atheists hold one value: God does not exist. Nothing else matters. Atheism is not belief in evolution, nor is it anti-religion. That is Antitheism.

Unfortunately, many Atheists out there are complete dicks and give other Atheists like myself the reputation of being an Antitheist.

Same thing happens with religious persons; the ignorant minority speaks out on matters and gives a completely irrelevant reputation to the whole.
