Burning a flag makes you a terrorist?
User avatar #183 to #51 - odonnell (09/16/2012) [-]
Yes. In 2006, to allow greater police control over extremist Muslim protesters, 17 MPs signed a House of Commons motion calling for burning of the Union Flag to be made a criminal offence. (Thats for the UK, im unsire about elsewhere.)

In recent times, anyone that breaks a law is a terrorist. Governments don't give a **** what you done, but if you don't agree with them you may as well be a Muslim extremist, working undercover as a Nazi, to destroy every religion, starting with the Jews.
#294 to #183 - EdwardNigma ONLINE (09/16/2012) [-]
I don't agree with my government on many things. In fact, pretty much everyone disagrees with the current prime minister and the douche **** that runs my state.

So, more than half of Australia is now Muslim extremists working undercover as Nazis to destroy every religion, starting with the Jews. Fun.

and this is why america is so retarded. do you know why most people that burn your flag do it? because due to your goverment their families and friends got killed, their country is going down the sewer, and you faggots are complaining that someone took your jobs (immigrants, right? no, it's your fault that some of you are too stupid to get a job)
screw you, hyppocrites.

Never knew.
#181 to #123 - eatsleepswim (09/16/2012) [-]
i see what you mean, but typically, people who dislike the United States won't go as far as burning the flag, something i believe to be extremely disrespectful. plus you can clearly tell that this is somewhere in the middle east, which is where (correct me if i'm wrong) the majority of the terrorist organizations against the United States are
#354 to #181 - scousaj (09/16/2012) [-]
I don't know why Americans think it's disrespectful to burn the American flag... It's not YOUR flag, it's MY flag. I bought it and I should have the right to do what I want with it. And don't say the soldiers fight for it, because they don't. They fight for your 'freedom', and with freedom you should be able to BURN SOMETHING YOU PURCHASED WITH YOUR OWN GOD-DAMN MONEY!
#464 to #354 - eatsleepswim (09/17/2012) [-]
Well, you do have the right to do whatever you want with the flag. There are no laws against burning the flag, and I am not saying there are. However, that doesn't mean it's not disrespectful. The flag is representative of our country, and if you go so far as to burn it, destroying it beyond repair, we find it disrespectful. There are a great deal of rules surrounding the flag, such as specific ways it needs to be folded, the fact that it can never touch the ground, and other things of that nature, and I'm sure many other countries have similar rules. Burning it is the highest form of disrespect. In addition, our soldiers do not fight for our flag, they do not fight for 'freedom' (i believe you meant that sarcastically since you put it in quotes), but they are fighting for their country. For something they truly believe in. For their family and friends and for who they love.
So essentially i want to say this. You absolutely do have the right to burn the flag. But it doesn't mean you aren't a dick for doing it. Please stop being so narrow-minded.
#482 to #464 - scousaj (09/17/2012) [-]
I don't think I was being narrow minded, and I understand everything you've said. I can respect that you (and probably most other people) think it's disrespectful to burn the flag. However, I still believe that the laws surrounding a flag are ridiculous; such as the ones you mention...

Yeah, but I'm not pissing on people, I'm pissing on a flag. I'm only using America as an example because I've been there, and most of the people I met were getting pretty ******* hard over their flag. But when flags are being burnt like this it's usually accompanied by chants of "death to america" and guns being fired in the air. That never ends well.

In the view of most Americans the flag represents the ideals of our country making an attacking on the flag a symbolic attack on out ideals (which is why they do it). This is also explains the meaning of the American pledge of allegiance which is to our flag first (our ideals) and then to the country that it represent (the United states made from these ideals). I could say more but I think that will do.

For alot of people the Flag represents freedom. Same with the star spangled banner and the statue of liberty.

But now, people are associating it with the government, which it's not supposed to be.
theres a quote that i stand by.

I love my country. But it's the government i hate.

this quote. defines everything that shouldnt be wrong with America but is.
people hate the country when really they should hate the government.

Its a sad prospect, but the american government has fooled the mass populace into thinking that anyone not fulling co-operating with them is a terrorist
