Portal 2

In Portal 2, Chell died. According to Creek Mythology, heaven is a
cornfield. When you die you hear singing and are accompanied by
your best friend (the Companion Cube, in which was obviously
incinerated.) Turrets took aim, then sung? They shot her and she
heard singing.

But... it was wheat
#73 - wardenspectre (09/12/2012) [-]
It could quite possibly be that, and hear me out on this one, I know it's a little far fetched but I think this might be legit.

What if she just ended up in a cornfield?
#4 - zerokelvin (09/12/2012) [-]
Corn was domesticated in the Americas, and was introduced to western settlers. Corn couldn't have been in Greek mythology if the Greeks didn't know about it.
User avatar #96 to #4 - hemming (09/12/2012) [-]
I think he meant Grain / Wheat, since you are not standing in a field of corn in the end.
#209 to #4 - anon (09/12/2012) [-]
you're a ******* idiot
there's wheat in the picture so it's obvious that he wasn't talking about the corn you americunts know
it's oldschool corn
wheat

Correct. Elysium was the equivalent of heaven, and the Greeks/Romans had no one description of the place. It is commonly depicted, however, as a field of grain ,such as the one at the end of the movie Gladiator.
User avatar #35 to #7 - mrmcdubley (09/12/2012) [-]
MOstly correct sir. However, it was the fields of asphodel (Purgatory) that was full of corn :D no offence.

The "fields of asphodel" are not corn fields. They are an endless sprawl where people who did neither good nor evil in their life go. Elysium is the place where good people go. Elysium is a paradise in the centre of Elysium is the Isle of the Blessed. If you are sent to Elysium you can reincarnate into a new life and when you die you are judged again. if you reach Elysium 3 times you enter the isle of the blessed where your every wish is catered for. Then ofcourse there is "hell" where you are tortured. If you were reaaaaaly evil your soul would be tortured by the furies. Who are hades' personal "succubi" and take great pleasure in your torment.

succubi, formed from the dismembered genitals of Uranus which were cut off by cronos. Aphrodite was also formed this way but while she is an aspect of beauty and love they are aspects of evil and hate, supposedly born from Nyx (night) where as Aphrodite was formed from the seafoam formed. Their waists are wreathed in snakes and they are hideous to behold, their body changing from parts of human to parts of animals constantly. Known as the infernal goddesses they are know as Alecto, (unameable) magera(grudging) and Tisiphone( vengeful destruction) There are normally only said to be 3 but the real number is undetermined.

Hades would send you to Tartarus. To be eaten alive by beats and tortured by shades. :3
User avatar #87 to #79 - SirFail (09/12/2012) [-]
Ah yes Tartarus! I couldn't remember the name :D A deep pit/abyss that is also a deity/primordial force, Like gaia/gaea(earth) uranus(sky) and pontus(sea) etc. Supposedly used as a prison for Kronus and some of the other titans. Also where the children of uranus were thrown, The Hundred-handed ones , the Giants, and the Cyclops. Though it was normally used for really bad ones. Like the King Tantalus (origin of the word tantalize) Who cut up his son, pelopes, boiled him, and served it as the meat of the meal when he was invited to dine with the gods. (lovely story to tell your kids). He was placed on an island ,surrounded by fresh water lake, with a fruit tree on. He is always starving and thirsty yet every time he tries to take a fruit the branches lift up away from him. Whenever he tries to drink the water recedes.

Isnt greek mythology just full of happy messages.

I love greek Mythology, specifically that which revolves around Hades and Persephone. My fiancee and I go by those names when we do our modeling, and we plan on having a Hades and Persephone themed wedding.
