Why are people so amazed by the rover landing? Isn't this just the most recent of several rovers that they've sent to Mars?

His nuclear battery is supposed to last like 15 years compared to the last few who were only meant to last 6 or 9 months but lasted 5 years.

It's the most sophisticated piece of technology ever landed on another planet. It's got about four spectrometers and a laser that shoots rocks to figure out what they're made of.

A laser, that shoots things from twenty feet away to find out what they're made of. Powered by a nuclear battery.

Not to mention the neutron pulse source that can detect water and hydrogen that's up to a few meters deep.

This rover has pretty much solved all the problems of the previous ones and has so far been a complete success. It can also take those sweet 360 degree photos in some real sexy quality.

Ohhh. I never played that one. Just Battlefronts 1 and 2, Revenge of the Sith, and The Force Unleashed. And my brother and I had Jedi Starfighter when we were kids but we didn't really play it enough for me to remember much about it.

The cost of mission to Mars was about 2.5 billion USD. Broken down, from tax funding, each tax-paying American payed 7 dollars USD to send the new rover to Mars. That's what I did. But I don't only see this as an achievement for America, but as an achievement for the world. Space exploration, when it first started out, was one of the very few, if not the only, thing that was allowing people to be globally connected. Neil Armstrong's famous quote was just said to be a nice quote to put down in the history books, but what he said was truly meant. If the leading countries would band their resources, then we could all do something incredible again. We could send men to Mars. Not just robots. And if we share what we learn with the world, it could be one of the greatest combatants toward global hatred out there. It wasn't just the US, but a global unification for the love of wanting to know the unknown, that sent us there. Wunderwaffe is just being self-centered. A real person knows that value of space exploration.

While I am not in agreement with this ignorant ****, it is the same concept as bragging about your sports team winning the world cup, or the super bowl, or the world series. It is okay to be proud of your country, just not in the way wunderwaffe is showing it.
