Theres a common mistake people make between "I can't get a job" and "I can't get a job that i want". One of my friends keeps complaining about how he applies everywhere and never gets a job despite another one of my friends saying that the mcdonalds that he works at is always looking to hire people. And then you also have odd jobs in the paper that people want doing and im sure if you looked hard enough on craigslist then there would be people around your area that want to **** want work done.

TL;DR there is always work somewhere, it just depends on how much you want it.

100% true.

I kicked out my roommate a few weeks back because she refused to admit she just wasn't looking for work. She fed me ******** excuses, one after the other for why she couldn't find a job.

I found her several job possibilities that would hire her for sure (because I went there and talked to the manager) and she still said she didn't get the job because she wasn't qualified. Finally I told her to go to Labour Ready so she could at least make money to pay rent, and she refused.

When it comes down to the nitty gritty, the only thing that matters at the end of the week is that paycheque in your bank account. You don't have to work a ****** job forever either, once you land a job and you're making money, keep looking for the job you want.

User avatar #107 to #106 - blueeyedpunk (09/11/2012) [-]
Seriously? that's not really a conspiracy, it's proven fact . . .
Bush (the good one, the first one) admitted on live television that the U.S. government was gaining profit off of our (the people's) poverty, and they still are. The more they go in debt, the less jobs we have. Oil drilling? U.S. Government's Idea and funding. Not to mention, general scientific research funding has gone WAY down in the past 5 years, yet our government is still costing the U.S. more and more.

So you have yet to question a conspiracy, "Go"

Not even as simple as that...
I've given plenty of time to voluntary work, and yet I still can't find a job anywhere. There's just so few, and those which do crop up receive an average of 250 applicants (and this is an official figure where I am).

My first job was working illegally when I was 13 at a golf course as a cart boy.
Next job was a waiter at a diner (For this one I had been told by the owner that they don't generally hire males, as they tend to have difficulty with the multitasking and stress (it's been 7 years since I had that job, the waitresses and cook that work there to this day were all trained by me.))
Next job was washing dishes at a restaurant.
Next was stocking items and customer service at Spencer's Gifts (Loved that job. I was allowed to shout "Dildo" across the store and no one would give it a second thought. We had lots of fun).
Next was Walmart. Then The Source by Circuit City where I was a manager, Then I quit and took a job as a labourer in a steel shop (The ONLY labourer, I might add) which I did for about a year of working 6 days a week. Then I left that job and now work in the oilfield getting more per day than most people get in a week.
Shut up, quit whining, do a ****** job. Prove you deserve a decent job.
User avatar #29 to #28 - duskmane ONLINE (09/08/2012) [-]
And on a side note: McDonalds isn't ****** . A&W isn't ****** . You want ****** ? You go work an independent diner, or one of those "mom and pop's" type convenience stores.

My first job was when I was 13, stocking shelves at a grocery store.
Then I got a job as a dishwasher.
Then I worked at a department store (fields)
Now I work in the oilpatch and make more money in a day than most make in a week.
If someone tries and perseveres, then good jobs can be had.
So quit whining about your ****** life and do something about it.
My thumb for you duckmane

Really? I've been working since I was 15! It's not hard to get a job, it's just too many people nowadays are too stuck up for their own good to work in certain places.

Heck, I've got countless qualifications and tonnes of experience in food, retail, banking, even handling of tens of thousands of pounds, and yet I'm currently working full time 38.5 hours a week night shifts in a cosmetics factory for just above minimum wage.

tl;dr? Don't think you're too good for flipping ******* burgers in McDonalds.

Apply for a union apprenticeship program. I've been in an electrical apprenticeship for 4.5 years, almost finished!, and they actually preferred that I was inexperienced. They want young people, who got decent grades in school, and don't have a criminal record. The philosophy is that it's easier to shape a young mind, than re-shape a hardened mind set in it's ways.

Started at $14.11/hr + full health benefits + full retirement package, now a fifth period apprentice pulling $28.45/hr with a raise to $33.85 in June. I'm not wealthy, but it's more than enough to be sole provider for my growing family.
User avatar #33 - livingdeadgirl (09/08/2012) [-]
it's not hard to get a job right now so much as it's hard to get a GOOD job right now. the kind of job where you could live in a house instead of an apartment and have benefits and insurance. everyone's being really choosy about jobs like that because no one is working right now and they can afford to be. it sucks working slave jobs when you're trying to get married and have a life.
