I love how you make the claim that matter cannot be created or destroyed, etc.

BUT NO ONE ******* SAYS THAT PORTALS AREN'T REAL.

#351 to #21 - John Cena (09/04/2012) [-]
Matter is merely a different state of energy. Under certain conditions, matter CAN be created or destroyed.
#632 to #21 - John Cena (09/29/2012) [-]
well, if you could just walk into a portal and end up on the top floor of the empire state building from ground level, you have more potential energy, and therefore, portals already violate laws of thermodynamics. So why can't this work?

False. Matter cannot be created or destroyed in chemical reactions. Nuclear reactions are a different matter (huehuehue).

You will not be able to shoot a portal on a prism as portals only stick to walls coated in moon rocks
User avatar #283 to #90 - gunzas (09/04/2012) [-]
I don't think so. What about the maintenance areas in the 2nd part of portal and portal 2?

I'm pretty sure there's just some materials on which portals cannot be created (like the black one, glass, metal, I think). Anyway you couldn't place portals on glass doors so that pretty much aplies for prisms too, I guess.

Hypothetically, let's say portals exist. Matter cannot be created or destroyed, so there are two options. The less likely one being that the coin would just split, the more likely being that like a circuit, the 'quarter' acting as an electron would take the easiest route. In this case, the route with the lowest gravitational potential, the lower portal.
User avatar #392 to #365 - ambience (09/04/2012) [-]
but what if the portals were horozontal from each other? not vertical?
User avatar #395 to #392 - thedarkhavok (09/04/2012) [-]
An interesting point, it really depends on how the portals operate. If an entity enters the portal and is transported to the secondary portal without the presence of a third party dimension, what would probably happen was the first theory, where the entity would split equally, a bit like current in a series circuit with identical components in each series. Although this doesn't really make sense because there isn't really an explanation for how the transportation itself occurs at all. If portals were real, what would probably happen is the net energy of the area replaced by the portal would be converted into a tiny unknown dimension, through actual distance would be covered. In this more plausible instance, the entity would exit from the closest portal. If all three were entirely equidistant, which is even more hypothetical, as that is more or less an impossibility, **** knows what would happen. The latter theory makes more sense, too, because when the portal vanish you can sort of see the prior material re-materializing.
#396 to #365 - John Cena (09/04/2012) [-]
Assuming we are living in the world of portals. This would create a portal through to the next parallell universe where he drops the ball in and it doesn't come out either of the holes. So the result would be. Either to balls come out of the holes or nothing.
User avatar #398 to #396 - thedarkhavok (09/04/2012) [-]
Did you mean two*? If so, matter cannot be created, so that's impossible. As for nothing, matter cannot be destroyed, unless you mean it would be deposited in the parallel universe?
#424 to #365 - John Cena (09/04/2012) [-]
Where did hydrogen and helium come from? They must have been created at somepoint(Not the big bang, because something must have been before that). Or am I missing something.
If matter cant be created then where the hell did it come in the first place?
User avatar #438 to #424 - thedarkhavok (09/04/2012) [-]
It was compressed to a single point, the big bang. The argument that the big bang cannot be the 'first cause' because something must've been before it is awfully flawed, because it's completely circular. What about before that? And then before that? It's just a dull argument created by a moronic priest called St. Thomas Aquinas who didn't much know what he was talking about. I'm not saying the big bang is the first cause necessarily, just that it is a simple fact that matter cannot be destroyed or created. Chemistry is the study off matter and change for that reason.
User avatar #553 to #365 - anonymoose (09/04/2012) [-]
If portals existed, then conservation of energy would be nullified and conservation of mass could very well be nullified along with it.
User avatar #562 to #553 - thedarkhavok (09/04/2012) [-]
Of course, but I was purely hypothesizing about this very limited context.

Don't forget that all of this is based on the assumption that portals act exactly the same way as light.
User avatar #381 to #379 - thedarkhavok (09/04/2012) [-]

User avatar #276 to #271 - minecraftborn (09/04/2012) [-]
there is actually a mod, I think it's a mod, that disables portals dissipating when moving, and you have a table-ish thing and a plataform thing, you perss a button and that happens... it gets really freaky
