If it makes you feel better, when future archaeologists dig this up it will be worth a whole lot more because it was tampered with like that. Also it would make a great topic in future history books.

I felt so bad though. She was like, 80, or 90. And only had good intentions..

For her entire life, she never decided to **** with it. For her entire life, NO ONE decided to **** with it. After decades of ******* living, she pulls that idea out like it's a good idea? "Huh. No one ever tried to restore this painting... I SHOULD GIVE IT A SHOT!"
Don't get me wrong, I'm not upset about this at all. The painting may be destroyed, but hey, it's not like we don't know what it looked like before. It's not like someone found a painting and wrecked it before the rest of the world got to see.
For as attached to these pieces of art as we are, there isn't really anything special about them. I can read a book and not be upset that the author himself didn't write the pages himself. I can listen to a song and not be upset that it's not just the artist singing right next to me. Why should this painting be any different?

Would someone mind filling me in on the whole story? I know some woman apparently ruined this old fresco trying to restore it, but that's about it.

Some old lady decided to repair it. Eventually realized she accidentally the whole thing, so she turned herself in. That is about it.
