its the word marriage and where it came from. if you see the history its actually a religious ceremony portraying two peoples love in front of god. the government added special rights to it they add the same rights to domestic partnership,but since marriage actually is a religious thing the government has to stand out and not get involved.

"Gay marriage" isn't the issue though. Gay couples can get married in any state and nobody will stop them (unlike bigamists). The issues are whether or not the state should recognize their marriages in some way, and whether or not gay marriage should be made legally the same thing as traditional marriage.

I'm fine with the government recognizing gay marriage, but that's not what the activists are interested in. What they're interested in is legally being able to force other people who don't agree with what they're doing to accept them. To me that's the opposite of freedom. They would be able to force churches that believe homosexuality is a sin to accept pastors who have a homosexual marriage. They'd be able to integrate lessons about anal sex, and fisting into grade school sex education curriculums WHETHER OR NOT PARENTS OBJECT.

Let's be honest and talk about what the real issues are instead of pretending the government is barging into gay couples homes and arresting them.

I agree with you on the 'shoving their stuff into our brains' (no pun intended) and i never said that they're being arrested or anything as such. I just don't want them to wiggle their penis in front of my eyes. Whatever they do, they should act as a normal couple. Also, I don't agree at all with gay parades. Where I live, gay marriage is frowned upon but also rare, but in these cases they gather in the biggest city in the area and go around dressed fancy or not dressed at all. Come on, who would want their children to see tons upon tons of penises wiggling on the street? When even topless is frowned upon...

Ok, they're just like any other human being apart from they are attracted to people of the same sex. That doesn't affect anyone.
Most gays have contributed to this world more than you will ever do in your lifetime. For example, they have given us great music, they have done great acting, some give to charity and help others, they adopt children who don't have homes (because straight people couldn't be bothered to look after their own)
To be honest, you're the one who's useless to humanity at the moment. Least most gays have done something useful.

Being gay is a belief, it is not mandatory in that person. Why should they get to ruin the sanctity of marriage because they chose to like the same sex? Plus Obama is encouraging the kids to become gay. I knew kids who are gay now but weren't gay when they were younger. Why are they gay now? They chose to be gay because they're being encouraged by president Obama. Homosexuality, the BELIEF, is condemned by God and Obama should be encouraging them to turn away from it, not saying "It's ok, you were born that way. You can get married!"

And no offense, but why should straights be able to get married when they just throw it away so easily? Most gay couples stay together all their lives. It's all about religion. We have freedom of religion here, but we are a Christian based country. Just look at our pledge of allegiance "one nation UNDER GOD".

We aren't forcing Christianity upon anybody, we are just saying "While you're here, respect that we are Christian, respect our beliefs (including no gay marriage), and you can live here and worship whoever the hell you want."

I'm obviously going to get some massive red thumbs, but i hope i made some of you understand WHY it's such a big deal for us to just accept gay marriage. It goes against the allegiance each and every one of us has pledged daily throughout our school years.

In the eyes of our leaders, it's as if a man walked into somebody else's home where there is a rule that reads "Do not leave the television on if you are not watching it. Other than that, make yourself at home", and this rule has been followed for years by the residents of the house, and accepted as: "If we are going to live here, we can follow their rules." But the man protested because he believed, that if he really is allowed to make himself at home, he should have permission to leave the television on whenever the **** he wants.

I personally have nothing against gay marriage, but i implore you all to take into account the OTHER side of the story. Understand the reason gay marriage is such a sore subject to our entire government.

For the record, the "under God" wasn't added to the pledge until the 1950's. It was added in response to our then rivalry with the USSR. I don't think the founding fathers ever intended for religion and politics to mix.

I'm also an atheist, I feel as if religion is just a silly thing used to mislead people.
Don't get me wrong, I (personally) think religion is a stuid thing, but I respect people who do believe.
I do think that it may aswell do good for people who have a poor and miserable life, they always have something better to look forward to, even though it may not be true.

That's what I think religions initially "got invented" for, to offer some sort of relief to people having a hard time in their life.
