Just throwing this out there. Using a rifle length firearm within the home itself is a bad idea. Do you know how easy it is to turn someones rifle as they come around a corner? Not to mention if you miss the round will keep going until stopped by furniture, a tree, or your child. While not as impressive I suggest a .revolver(not a magnum, .38 is usually pretty good) loaded with soft points. Cuts down on penetration, easier to control in tight spaces, and harder to disarm you. Suggested by your local Funnyjunk LEO/Small Arms Instructor.

And the suggestion is appreciate :) thank you. Im about to turn 21 so I can FINALLY buy my own pistol.

If you've got the cash I suggest you buy some Magsafe rounds. They're frangible bullets designed to penetrate as little as possible. They were invented by the Israelis so that their police could carry their weapons on aircraft without having to worry about poking holes in the plane. They also do a number on tissue.

Great for home defense, especially if you've got kids, but kind of pricey.

One other thing, if you shoot them KILL THEM. Empty the weapon into them. If they live you can and will be sued(even if they die as well), at least if there is only one side to the story you will stand a chance. Assuming your state has the Castle Doctrine or the perp was armed at least.

really? that's your HOME defense weapon? for an enclosed space with thin walls? surely a pistol would qualify more as home defense, i would think anything larger is only really justifiable if you've got a ******* ranch.

Well, I live out in the country. I can see people driving up to my house from my bedroom, the headlights go right in. A shot gun is good, but you have limited rounds and range. With this I got 30 rounds, and the 30 cal. round isnt powerful enough to go through many walls or anything.
User avatar #53 to #21 - roninpenguin (08/18/2012) [-]
I take it that is a 308, if it is then it will go through plenty of walls unless all of your walls are brick. The 308 (or 7.62x54) is still used in sniper rifles around the world because of it's great penetration.
