Very impressive considering there's only 23 hours, 57 minutes, and 4.1 seconds in a day.

They get together every four years for a party in late February.

Don't know why I was thumbed down, but I don't really care.

Dafuq? Well how does that work since we still keep track of days by 24 hours?

Each day is just under 24 hours.
We round up to 24 hours.
By doing this, a whole year is technically 365.25 days.
We then add a day to a year every four years to make up for the .25 days. (.25 x 4 = 1)
Problem = solved.

Wait, wouldn't we want to subtract a day every four years to make up for the extra .25 days a year?

That is the same thing i thought when i read this thread but no.
Since we round up to 24 hours there is a small amount of time added.
Since there would be 365 days in a year if we did not round up, there is now an extra .25 days on an entire year, so now, me must add 1 day every four years.

Or, think about it this way, we round up to 24 hours making part of tomorrow at the end of today, by doing this it eventually adds up to 6 hours of tomorrow at the end of today ,by December. That may seem like it would mess up time a lot but with daylight savings times it kinda helps. So, now you have 6 hours of a day all messed up, so you take a .25 of a day and you stick it on the end of the year so the entire decade doesn't shift 2-3 days!

Oh ****, now I get it. They don't really add a day, they just add it on the calender, and that day IS the .25 days each year. I thought you meant they literally counted an extra day along with the .25 each year to add 2 days every 4 years. Still, wouldn't that mess with the seasonal year a little bit?

Technically that is right, because our days are just under 24 hours. That's why we have a leap year every four years that adds an extra day to account for the difference. But oh well

No, a day is exactly 24 hours, it's just that a year doesn't divide exactly into a whole number of days, so they have to vary the length of the years to keep the calendar accurate.
