More like scumbag US, trillions of dollars in debt and then spends billions of dollars on admittedly cool but ultimately useless project.

I agree. That money could go to bailing us out. Or.... stuff. Save the cool spacey things when we're out of debt.

I hardly consider space exploration a pointless project.

I agree that space is cool...but what exactly have we gained from it? Truth of the matter is space is a cold, empty place that we can never truly explore. ***** just too massive ya know? So it is pointless.

We haven't gotten anything back yet, but it will be useful for possible colonization on other planets, which could be extremely beneficial

Planet terraforming seems highly unlikely to me seeing as Mars is the only planet we could do it with. Unless we as humans gain the ability to create multi-layer atmosphere and produce plants from nothing, how do we expect to colonize it? Not to mention the amount of traveling involved...But no one can say for certain I guess...maybe...

not necessarily terraforming. Have you ever heard of the biosphere 2 experiment?

We have gotten things back from the space program.
Loads of stuff that was originaly developed by the space program has been put to uses in a bunch of other ways such as Teflon.
