ever made me start a war with China.

(BTW Im winning, these guys suck)

Honestly, if it wasn't for wars, we wouldn't have half of scientific progression that we have now. It's sad to look at it that way, but it's true...
User avatar #127 to #110 - drosenblum (08/08/2012) [-]
And also, many scientific discoveries were made from experimentation on Jews during the Holocaust, which is pretty ****** up.

And the crusades indirectly started the renaissance. Crusaders aquired a taste for Eastern goods, back home in Europe that taste turned into demand, demand turned into trade, and trade was the catalyst for the the renaissance.

gg humanity.
User avatar #120 to #114 - adrilazzaro (08/08/2012) [-]
actually i believe the renaissance happened after the black death, it wiped out so many people there wasn't such a high food demand but the food was still there so people didn't have to spend their whole time 24/7 working the fields, this gave them time to study and think with more creativity and make them wonder thus so many scientists, artists, engineers and technology advances were made.

The Crusades started finishing up shortly before the black plague started. It's entirely possible it was both.

But without the looming possibility of death,is it really science?

MFW when Starship Troopers is a novel marvelling at nuclear weapons
User avatar #92 to #90 - valyn (08/07/2012) [-]
eh, its more about the philosophy of democracy and civil responsibility than nukes
User avatar #96 to #92 - teets (08/08/2012) [-]
given the fact that it was written in the Cold War, I think many would have seen Heinlein's mention of his support for nuclear weapons as just as important as the values of democracy and civil responsibility he writes about.

agreed it may not have been his main focus, but the fact he mentioned at all in such an era was definitely significant

but I know no one cares
User avatar #98 to #96 - valyn (08/08/2012) [-]
someone cares lol. Starship Troopers and Stranger in a Strange Land are two of my favorite novels.feels good to be able to intelligently discuss them on here for once lol
User avatar #99 to #98 - teets (08/08/2012) [-]
haha, I did Starship Troopers in one of my college classes, so it's more of an involuntary reaction as opposed to caring.

I agree, they are enjoyable to read too. don't worry, someone will ruin it soon . . .

Postal (the movie) had horrible acting. I spilled an hour and a half into that movie, and was extremely disappointing. The first half of the movie was funny but crap acting, and the second half was just **** cheesy. Unrelated, I'm just trying to vent.
