or because knowing that there is a loving father watching over the universe that he's created in infinite mystery and wonder makes more sense than thinking every little intricacy within the universe is just accidental coincidence.
Is it not easier to say you know something when you have evidence, for example i could say i'm using windows 7 right now, my evidence for this is the windows 7 boot-up screen, windows task bar, windows sticker on the laptop im using, this was gathered by evidence, looking at what is observed and coming to a conclusion based on the evidence at hand.
Now because ive used evidence to base my conclusion, if any of that changed i could then change my conclusion and say i was wrong it's actually windows xp that has been modified to look like windows 7.
Now lets go to the example of faith, when i boot up my computer i see all the same things but someone who has never touched a computer before, tells me that im running one of apples operating systems IOS, now despite it being wrong based on the evidence i have a strong feeling that im running IOS, this is faith the ignoring of all evidence to come to the conclusion that your belief is the right one.
Evidence based conclusions and theorems are the only reason our socity has advanced as far as we have this is the scientific method.
You say that like there's evidence showing there is no God. I see more evidence of his existence every single day. Without going into too many details, i have a severe medical condition, and when i've been in the hospital or at home doing research on the body and effects my condition can cause i am reminded that the body is more than just skin and bones. it's an elaborate piece of art (even if some are a bit more abstract than others) that i just can't see being stumbled upon over millions (or are they saying billions now...trillions?) of years of cause and effect. and that is just the human body. not taking into account the myriad of mystery that is this entire UNIVERSE. to me it is more logical that this is all a piece of art created by an external hand. but if there is ever definitive proof (like you said about win7 being winxp) that there is absolutely no chance of there being a God in this universe. i will likely recant my belief...but there is no such proof.. so you live how you want...and i'll do the same. (btw "made in God's image" isnt talking about physical properties, it's referring to how we were made as perfect beings...like God."
We were not made as perfect beings to begin with, the fact that you have an illness is proof of that, and even if you were to discount every other possibility, god is still not the awarer the only way to find out if something is real is to investigate it, deism and atheism are justified in the fact that we have no evidence to support these supernatural claims.
The claim that the universe is simply a work of are by god is another twist of the watchmaker argument, you could extend it to say that god is complex therefore he is another painting in of him self, then the painter of god and over and over it is a dead end.
We WERE perfect beings, without sin and without death. But the fall of man dropped us from the perfect pedestal and once sin entered the mix mankind became imperfect.
You're fighting so hard for your "evidence" argument and completely ignoring the fact that it does go both ways. there may be no proof that God exists but there is none that proves he doesn't either.. so you're argument could be considered just as much a fallacy as mine
No the evidence argument stands, do you have a belief in unicorns? what about Santa?
My position is not compromised as it is on your shoulders to prove gods existence, for example:
I can shoot lazer beams out of my ass and burp rainbows.
(i'm going to assume you don't believe me)
Now if i wanted you to believe me just on my word that would be a fallacy on my part, this is because the burden of proof is on me, the same fallacy applies to god and those who claim he exists.
As for the perfect beings, that is non-sense because you are stating that thousands of years ago a man and a woman ate a bit of fruit that they weren't supposed to, now god told them not to eat from the tree of knowledge but without knowledge how could they comprehend not to, and the fact that we are being punished for it today simply would not make sense from an all loving creator.
it's impossible to prove to someone like you that there is a God. for instance you say "if there is a god why doesnt he prove him self.....like say knocking over this glass of water" *nothing happens* "see nothing your god doesnt exist" *you accidentally hit the cup while getting up* "......that doesnt count.. i knocked it over" to me that would be proof but you would rationalize it so it wasnt.
im not trying to prove to you that he exists anyway... to me its obvious he's there and its obvious that you wont decide to change your beliefs from some mediocre conversation on Funnyjunk. i dont NEED to prove it to you for me to be confident it's there. now enjoy the internet, live how you want, and dress warmly on your death bed....just in case i'm right ;P
I'm Athiest-Agnostic, your premise is false, with the glass of water if i said tip over this water an all knowing being would expect me to rationalize it if someone else tipped it over, therefore would have the knowledge and power to prove me wrong, i do not test any god as i have no reason to.
I was raised a catholic and going up i actually wanted to be a priest at a stage in my youth as i grew up around about 16 i began reading the bible and came to my own conclusions about the bible, the fact in all this remains that if a god wanted me to believe in him he wouldn't have to force me if he is all powerful he could simply demonstrate that he is real and i would believe.
< also i dont need to dress warmly, i plan to die in battle.
thus eliminating the display of faith, which displays trust, which displays love which is the whole purpose of his creating us.
Well if we look at the bible anyway, in the old days god didn't have a problem showing up to prove he existed, for example the story of Elijah on Mt. Carmel, god appears to prove himself.
And how exactly do you ''know'' it?
Faith is being sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we do not see.....It's a christian thing
It's funny because what you just said is incredibly stupid and ignorant. You obviously don't understand the theories and ideas of how things came to be. There really isn't much chance in the universe. Everything is a big chain reaction, basically, that perhaps started with chance. We aren't sure of the specifics of how the universe was started, but the idea that some "father" basically snapped his fingers and everything came into existence is just as silly as you made atheism out to be.
