Marie Nu, because the bible says not to. Leviticus
35: 13 .. " a man lies with a man as one lies with it woman,
both of them have done what is detestable. They must be
pat to death: their blood will be on their own heads.‘

William Yes. And as for the bible, you have to look at
the context and the meaning behind the words. Leviticus
was all about putting things Into categories and different
categories did not mix, So technically you break God' s law if
you wear clothes that are a blend of two different fibers.
Divorce is also condemned in Leviticus but we don' t forbid
people to divorce. Also, you should be condemned if you
touch a woman in any way within 7 days of her period. What
Leviticus actually meant in “man shall not he with man as he
does with a woman" means a man should not treat a fellow
man as his interior as he would a woman. because treating a
man as a woman was wrong. Back then, every woman
belonged to some mam either her father or her husband.
Having sea after the wedding to consummate the marriage
was the man officially claiming ownership of his new woman.
If you have sex with a virgin woman, then you had damaged
another man' s property. So in essence, Leviticus was
property law, and your argument is invalid. Nowadays the
Bible is used selectively " a weapon, so unless you want to
kill all unmarried. women. divorcee; and
people who wear mixed fabrics. you can stop preaching.

For anyone willing to listen, I would like to quote a few verses that sum up my opinion:

1. Romans 3:23 "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" i.e everyone has sinned, no one is perfect

2. John 8:7 "Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone" i.e as seen above, that means no one but God has the right to judge another, especially because of a sin they committed

3. John 15:12 "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you." i.e love unconditionally regardless of any perceived sin

The Bible asks of us that we leave the problem of sin to the individual and God, and focus 100% on loving them and bringing them healing and forgiveness.

For anyone willing to listen, I would like to quote a few verses that sum up my opinion:

1, God isnt real

2. Youre a ******* idiot if you think a person who has killed thousands of innocent people should be telling you who to love.

3. Open up your mind forget god, live for yourself and for the goodness of others. Not to please the ego of a tyrannical deity.

who are you to judge what you dont know?

"live for yourself and the goodness of others" its one way or the other, you can be selfless or selfish.

"a person who has killed thousands of innocent..." you're calling god a person...? and if god doesnt exist, and its just survival of the fittest in our evolutionary world, what makes it wrong that thousands of innocent people were killed?

Also Galatians 3:24: "Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster that we might be justified by faith." i.e., we don't follow Levitican law any longer.
User avatar #30 to #15 - Whitenleaf (07/26/2012) [-]
True enough; Jesus laid down 12 basic laws to follow:
1-10) Ten Commandments
11) Love People (love others as I have loved you)
12) Love God (love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength)
This is outlined in Matthew 22 (spec. 37-40) where He outlines how the ten commandments can be translated to our day to day lives.

Really, it can be dropped to two basic commands.
You had them, but I see them as the ten commandments summed up.
If you look at the 10 commandments, the first 4 are about loving God.
The other 6 are about loving man.

We each have our own way of seeing things though.

What you say about women and slaves being below men is taken a bit out of context. Back in those days, women and slaves had no education, therefore the educated men were to be the ones who had higher authority.... not tryin to bash on anyone here, just stating my oppinion

your trying to interpret 2000 year old scripture. back then women had no education, so men are better leaders, as expected. and black people being slaves is old testament law, and in the new testament there are verses that tell slaves to love and respect their masters, because as Christians we were meant to serve other and love. hope i cleared it up for you, if not ask questions.

(inb4 massive red thumbs for being a Christian)
Here.. we.. go.. haha.

Leviticus is old Jewish laws that Christians USED to have to live by. It's Old Testament; not New Testament. When you read the 4 gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) when Jesus was on Earth he clearly indicates that he has come to fulfill the law of Moses (old Jewish laws in Leviticus) . He fulfills the law and lives a perfect sinless life. Something only God could do. Something we could never do.

So he fulfills the law, simply so he can lay down a newer and much simpler law for us. Because what the old law did was simply show us how sinful we really were. It showed us that we needed God. But instead of God leaving us at that with all these harsh rules that we could never fulfill. He instead comes down in human form as Jesus and fulfills the law for us so we don't have to live by it.

All God wants us to do is to love him and love others.

Thanks for anyone who read, sorry for the long read and i'm not trying to act like I have all the answers I just wanna give it from a Christian perspective.

Thanks guys. I think the problem now-a-days if there's a lot of "Christians" that are hating and bash other people that really give Christians a bad name.

Then there are what I call "lukewarm" Christians. That just say they are Christians and don't ever actually read the Bible, learn the context, understand what is actually being said. I mean Jesus taught in parables.. that should be an obvious implication that you need to really study the Bible to understand some of the concepts.

I'm really glad to see a positive voice towards what I said. I think there are a lot of people out there with compassion and actually truly care about other peoples opinions. I also think there are a lot of people that want to be Christian, or have an opinion but are literally afraid of getting red thumbs for saying anything. Which is ridiculous.

Thanks again guys. Means a lot that people actually listen.

My parents are both United Methodist ministers, and everyone in our family (and most extended family) believe that gays should be allowed to be married, period.

As far as the church goes, Christians should be finding ways to be accepting and loving towards people. This modern debate has really given most of the church a bad image.

As far as politics goes, why shouldn't two men be allowed to have all the same benefits as a man and a woman? Sure maybe it does say that marriage is defined as between a man and a woman, but the definition of marriage has been changed many times before.

If you really do believe that being gay is a sin that's fine, but hate the sin, not the sinner. The point of that section in Leviticus is to show that everyone is a sinner.

tldr?
Gays should be allowed every single right that everyone else has, including the right to work at Chick-fil-a
#232 to #209 - anon (07/27/2012) [-]
explanation from Christian. Church does not have official opinion about homosexuality. Young Christians like myself are learned that as long as a person doesn't enter actual intercourse with another person which is the same sex, it's not considered sin. But Church does not recognize either gay or any other marriage outside of the Church itself.

I don't understand how that makes you a Christian. Before I go further on, let me say I bear no ill will. It just isn't luculent to me.

If you don't care for the bible, I'm assuming by this you mean you don't believe in the dogma set forth by the apostles in the bible. Am I right? Believing in God is not an attribute solely belonging to the Christian religion. Either you follow the Christian doctrine, or you don't. If you do, you are Christian. If not, you aren't.

A fellow worker of mine also believes in the Holy Trinity, yet does not believe in the doctrine set forth by the bible. She acknowledges that she is not a Christian because she does not follow the rules. Picking and choosing.

So, if you believe in God, yet don't follow the Christian doctrine, how are you a Christian? You could just claim to be a theist.

Okay, thanks for clearing it up.

I was raised by a Christian family, too. When I got older, I started to question a lot of the stuff, but still identified with the Christian religion because I felt it was part of my identity.
