He knew Gollum was bad from the start, he let Frodo treat him liek **** and still went back, fought a spider like a boss, killed a few orcs to get to him and then carried him up a mountain, Yeah he's the hero.

Only Sam could be so hard as **** that he can travel across all of Middle Earth and not lose a single pound.

Don't **** with Sam.

frodo did the same that did sam(walk) except he had to carry the most powerful evil device ever created for months while it corrupted his mind and he managed to stay sane for most of the trip

He got the puss already though, but I agree on the medal part.

JRR Tolkein himself agrees with you.

Personally, I'd vote for Gandalf.
Identified the ring and made preparations it got to Rivendell.
Saved the group from the Bal-Rog.
Saved Rohan at Helm's Deep.
Saved Gondor at Minas Thirith.
Helped distract the orcs in Mordor so Sam/Frodo/Smeagol could sneak in past the army.

Also, he came back from the dead because he was needed.

Tolkien once said Sam was the chief hero of the story. Mainly for his great accomplishments and also because he's probably the only one in history who willingly relinquished the One Ring.

Most Badass thing about Sam? After all the Elves left Middle Earth, and there was no way to get across the sea, he still left on a boat to go to the undying lands and live forever, as he held the ring and resisted it, so was given that power. Also, he was the only one (other than Aragorn) to resist the ring's temptation, so that makes him a hero, despite all the other things he done.

Oh, and he also fought Goblins with a frying pan, that's hardcore in my books.

This is what astounds me the most, in the movies it seems that Sam doesn't even want to take the ring, he just follows frodo and helps him, defending him against every mofo in the middle earth, so if he is so resistant to the power of the ring, why didn't he carry it himself?

To me, Sam was stronger than Frodo, more resistant, tougher, better fighter, more careful and wiser, he was the perfect candidate; or at least it's what I figured in the movies, his only .

ps: sorry for my english, I'm french

It's okay about your language, it made perfect sense. And I guess, when Tolken wrote the book, he just figured Sam would be better as a loyal servant, than a protagonist, and I think he fits that role perfectly. It gives off a good dynamic, and I think is meant to show people how sometimes, the most overlooked people and details, are the most important in the order of things. Tolkein had a very coy way of writing.

MFW most comments are kids taking knowledge only from the movies.

They just don't get it. The book describes so much more of how manipulated Frodo was from the ring and Gollum. Like it wasn't Frodo who mad the choice to leave Sam behind, it was the ring.

The songs of praise for Faramir were not sung loud enough
Though Aragorn fought bravely and Boromir was tough
Through Ugluk's raids and Mauhur's fights
And death and glory for Rohan's knights
The son of Gondor, Ranger Chief
Was pierced by arrows and father's grief
When brother Boromir was slain
And death of Gandalf, not in vain

Through fire and fury, Rhun's and Khand's
and Mordor's wrath, one hero stands

For Faramir and Gondor's best
Henneth Annun's gleaming crest
We stand behind our king Elessar
To cheer for the hero of the City of Stars

When the fields were strewn with the corpses of men
And Gondor feared it would not rise again
Concluded hence the Wars of Rings
and Faramir stood at the City of Kings

A poem by Nullifier :)

but a job was bestowed upon him no one would want to have, and in the end he finished it. Sam was his strength, but he was the heart of the whole fellowship.

thats only my humble opinion.

Frodo: carries a ring and complains about the burden it's putting on him
Sam: carries the gear, food, supplies and the rest without ever complaining.

and then you go back and watch the cartoon version of the lord of the rings and you'll never look at sam the same way again...
