>The bill of rights was signed by thirteen members.
>Thirteen times two = 26
>26 is the number of games the Lakers lost in 1933.
>1933 divided by the number of reposts today, means we have to go find a midget in the white house, named Thorton.
>Thorton's favorite number is 6 and so is two other people's in the state of Kentucky.
>6+6+6 is 666, therefore Illuminati.

Pretty much sums up how Conspiracy Theorists think up their "theories".

the illuminati were founded as a group to counteract the Roman Catholic Church bak in the Dark Ages. not some group hellbent on dominating the world, but rather a group to try and convince people that what the RCC was saying about science wasnt completely true.
you mustve done a lot of research on those Yahoo answers blogs.

User avatar #223 to #219 - PurpleAtrocity (07/24/2012) [-]
Thank god someone knows that the Illuminati is not some dark mysterious group. It's a group of really intelligent ************* . They liked to remain anonymous because they were blacklisted if the church found out.
User avatar #225 to #223 - mericaisgreat (07/24/2012) [-]
exactly, people like galileo were part of it, and they just were trying to prove that science was a big part of what was going on. and even though they were men of science, most of them were actually rather religious, and were trying to prove the existence of a god through the use of science, but the Church couldnt allow that because they thought people would lose faith. so most members kept themselves anonymous.
User avatar #226 to #225 - PurpleAtrocity (07/24/2012) [-]
Exactly. If OP wanted a mysterious powerful group, he would have chosen to research the free mason society. That's some powerful stuff right there.

Freemasons? Really? How is that so much easier to believe than the Illuminati? The Freemasons are just people, just because they don't let everyone in doesn't mean they're a bunch of people secretly controlling the world. They're not "secret" or powerful either.

The main problems I have with conspiracy theorists is that they think that the real world is like a movie where some giant, evil, powerful entity is controlling the world. People are people, and life is boring. And just about every conspiracy theory is based around the logic "It sounds possible, therefore it must be true". Sure 9/11 COULD have been staged. But that's still a pretty solid COULD.

TL;DR, Conspiracy theorists are circular thinking, paranoid and one sided. And the Freemasons aren't controlling **** besides the Freemason lodges.
User avatar #498 to #497 - PurpleAtrocity (07/25/2012) [-]
I don't know if you're aware or not, but the free masons actually do sway the world one way or another. They used to do it through sculpture, and used the money they earned through that to buy people out. I'm not saying they control the entire world here, but they hold some serious power.
User avatar #499 to #498 - TastyBurger (07/25/2012) [-]
They do hold some power, because they're usually wealthy philanthropists. They donate $2 million each day, to the causes they choose, so I'm sure they have more of a passive control over some aspects in the world. But definitely not enough to control the government or to be secretly shaping the world in their eyes.

illuminati was a group of scientists who were practicing science secretly to not be persecuted by the church, they disbanned like over 200 years ago, only reason why people think the illuminati is real still is because of angels and demons
User avatar #279 to #249 - manhandled (07/24/2012) [-]
From what I understand the Illuminati in Europe was scientists, but American Illuminati has control of the government, music industry, and is a satanic group who worships Lucifer, it's a conspiracy theory

however the "historical references" and the arguments used were just annoying
