Spoons. .. The only reason i want gun control is so that instead of having gangs gun each-other down, they have cool martial arts fights like ninjas. LA would be badass

I'm sorry but this is ******** . Funny analogy and everything but seriously, the reason America has these incidents like Columbine and the cinema event is because there is no gun control. In England loads of **** happens like the London riots but not a lot are injured because fists and knives can't kill of tens of people within seconds.

For those of you that are either anti-gun or pro-gun I highly recommend watching this video by Penn & Teller that explain why gun control is stupid. They actually use facts and have interviews with people from BOTH sides

I can eat my food with a spoon, a knife, a fork, a stick, or even my hands.

I can kill with a gun, a knife, a for, a stick, or even my hands.

A better analogy needs to be used. You are using the spoon to feed you. The gun is being used against you and you can't help it. There needs to be better gun laws, it won't stop everyone, but highschool shootings will go down quite probably as many people who shoot up schools aren't the sort of people with access to black market weapons. I think that people's mental stability should be checked very carefully when they apply for a gun license.

Back when people could get machine guns delivered to their door there weren't these kind of rampages.

Well there are a lot of cinema shootings, schools shootings and college shootings something should be done

You only need a weapon to protect yourself from people with weapons.

If you make guns illegal, you make it easier for people to rob and assault you, but you also make it more difficult for would be criminals to obtain the means to do so.

I am personally against the right to bear arms as everything works well here in Australia and I would have no problem with the issue if it weren't so abysmally easy to get hold of a weapon, almost anyone can get one in two days, they sell them at walmart. If no one had guns, no one would need guns, doesn't get more simple.

Guys, please just understand, y'all are saying that just cause america sells guns, it doesnt mean that there will be a higher criminality rate. You keep saying "So what if there wasn't gun laws - criminals don't follow laws!"

Thing is, while that is true, but if there were not any gun laws, i.e. you were not allowed to have a gun, many criminals who could just buy a gun at a local store would have to use the black market, and sure, some of them do, but many would not because of laziness/lack of know-how of finding the right people.

Gun laws perhaps don't increase criminality, but it gives easier access to guns for criminals, so when they execute crime, the consequences are often worse.

Half Right Half Wrong: Guns are merely an instrument of armament.

To the public they are to be given as arms of self defense if the civilian finds themselves vulnerable to forces of criminality.
It is FAR from being uncivilized, only if it is abused horrendously.
#275 to #272 - threenippledcousin (07/23/2012) [-]
which it is, europe has no guns yet we have much greatly reduced crime levels and because criminals are much less likely to have a gun we don't need a gun to defend our selves

Lemme pull this out again.

To the Left is the ****** per Capita, to the Right is the Gun ownership per Capita

You will notice there is quite a few European nations on here to the left and a few to the right.

Europe's crime rate isn't as pristine as you'd have it believed to be.

By the way, why do you people keep comparing an entire goddamn continent to a nation?
#303 to #300 - threenippledcousin (07/23/2012) [-]
****** doesn't meanhityou can kill people with other things not just guns.
User avatar #304 to #303 - akkere (07/23/2012) [-]
The point is that the crime rate for a significant amount of European nations isn't as pristine as you'd have it out to be, and that there's a fair amount of nations that DO have guns.

"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety"-Ben Franklin
those americans that say guns should be banned all together, you are literally spitting on our founding fathers and the constitution. Our founding fathers knew what they were doing when they made our constitution, and if our goverement and its people actually followed it to the T, we wouldnt be in many of the problems we are in now, dont blame guns, swallow your pride and quit pointing fingers like a 2nd grader, blame yourselves.
ps. the boobs were to get your attention, and hell, why not? merica
#262 to #257 - anonymous (07/23/2012) [-]
Here in New Zealand where its hard to purchase guns I have a much smaller chance of being shot than you do. Deranged people here only manage to find knives and gold clubs before being arrested. Its nice. Your founding fathers might have changed their mind had they seen how the rest of the world ******* without guns but their country struggled with a gun problem. America really is a great place and I envy many parts of your country. Just not your access to guns. Guns are a want, not a need. good luck.
#261 to #257 - ludislavonac (07/23/2012) [-]
You do realise that your constitution was written more than 200 years ago? It was a much more turmoilous time where danger lurked around every corner. Of course it was smart to give people the right to bear arms to protect themselves, also the firearms at that time weren't nearly as powerful as they are today, all you could get for your money was a small handgun that could fire a shot or two, now you can buy a fuken AK at any gun store... Is that really needed? I mean, here in europe you don't see people totin' rifles around and there is far less crime than in the US, how come?
#269 to #261 - akkere (07/23/2012) [-]
I hope you don't honestly think that you can just walk into a gun store and buy an AK. It's much more... paperwork-loaded than that.

Also, if you're going to bring up the entire goddamn continent of Europe, let's look at some cross-referenced statistics. To the Left is ******* Per Capita in Nations (Source: Nationmaster) , to the Right is Guns Per Capita (Source Wikipedia and its respective citation). You'll notice some European nations begin to crossreference in here.

I'm not supporting either side of the point, just bringing up something to level the opinions.
User avatar #364 to #269 - fosforgasxiii (07/24/2012) [-]
The left is completely wrong. There only die 10.57 people/1000 citizens in Belgium a year. Then how can there be 17 ******* /1000 people a year?
User avatar #365 to #364 - akkere (07/24/2012) [-]
.....And your source is...?
User avatar #366 to #365 - fosforgasxiii (07/24/2012) [-]
You need to login to view this link
I found a better source, official government website. Sorry, I couldn't find something in English but google translate should be good enough.
User avatar #367 to #366 - akkere (07/24/2012) [-]
Oh. I see what the problem is now.
You misread the left portion deals in numbers of 17 per 1 million people, wheras this statistic deals in just simply per 1000, hence it being a mortality rate.

They're both correct.
User avatar #368 to #367 - fosforgasxiii (07/24/2012) [-]
No I just discovered what went wrong. I read 17.929 as 17,929 because we use , as a comma and . to seperate high numbers while in English it is otherwise.
#281 to #269 - twilightdusk (07/23/2012) [-]
The guy who shot up the movie theater in Colorado bought all of the weapons and ammunition used legally. This included an AR-15 assault rifle, which had been banned under a 1994 ban on assault weapons that expired in 2004, and a special magazine that allowed him to fire 100 shots before needing to reload. That plus a shotgun, two glocks, and ammo for all of them, all purchased within a 3-month period with nobody suspecting a thing.

Perhaps it's a bit too easy to get weapons in this country.
User avatar #296 to #281 - akkere (07/23/2012) [-]
Sounds like something that requires extensive investigation on the department that issued the permits for those weapons without feeling a need to have a check-up.

This is the first time I've heard about this, so I'm not sure if I can comment on that.

However, ammunition isn't too hard to make yourself, in fact it can work out to be more powerful than what you would get at a store if you know what you're doing.

But again, not 100% certain on the facts here, so can't really comment on that.
#301 to #296 - twilightdusk (07/23/2012) [-]
It seems like my timeframe was slightly off, here's what I got from this news article: www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/20120723/us-colorado-shooting-arsenal/

"On May 22, law enforcement officials said Holmes bought a Glock pistol. Less than a week later, he upgraded to a shotgun. The following week he bought an AR-15 rifle, versions of which had been outlawed under the assault weapon ban in 1994. But that prohibition expired in 2004 and Congress, in a nod to the political clout of gun enthusiasts, did not renew it."

It goes on to mention that he bought the other pistol in July 12 days before the shooting, and before he bought the guns he was stocking up on the ammo, combat vest, and other items he brought with him.
User avatar #278 to #269 - ludislavonac (07/23/2012) [-]
Well the ****** statistics are clear, most of the countries with lots of ******* are considered something like "3rd world european countries". Serbia being on the 2nd place is due to the fact they had fought a few wars in the last 20 years, most of the guns are from the 90s era. Most other European countries don't have even half as much guns per capita as the US
User avatar #290 to #278 - akkere (07/23/2012) [-]
There's also a significant amount of history within the nation that causes guns to be such a big deal here, especially when you have two world wars and two current wars in which the soldiers were allowed to keep their guns for the most part.

There's a significant amount of European nations on the ****** side here that aren't third world country as well, such as Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland, and Finland.

The point is, their crime rate isn't as pristine as you'd have it out to be, and it's a more complex issue.
