hey FJ i have a question:
so i tried to explain to a random user that lil wayne isnt "entirely"
a bad rapper and that there is some good in him. it ended up
being like one of those facebook "OC" posts where i try to have
an intelectual conversation about one of lil wayne's songs and
how its truthful and comes from deep in the heart while he acts
stubborn and blows off everything i say. my question to you is
would you guys understand where im coming from if i post it as
content?

I would. Perhaps not them, but me. Personally, I don't like him. But I do listen to a lot of rap, so I get where you're coming from.

i dont like lil wayne either. i do like how to love though because it stands out from all his other songs. most people here dont like rap though so i can see how they can just assume all rappers have a "**** bitches make money" mentality

But sometimes that mentality is funny, and it makes for good music. Like N.W.A.

I know, nobody listens to rap here. That's why they don't like it, most people here have never actually listened to it. Just the surface stuff. The kind that gets shoved at you, not the real music.

i couldnt agree more. NWA is pretty good. but i think the reason they dont like rap is because the rap that most people hear is the kind that is all hard beats but the lyrics dont flow with the song and it just sounds bad

I dislike most modern rap. Lyrics and message are lost, all that ends up happening is pretty much what you said. But it was actually really good at one point. Mostly, anyway.

i think that there are some rappers that are still good though. theyre just hard to find beneath all the drake and tyga and nicki minaj and rick ross

Like that one guy, Killer Mike.

Still though, I like the older rappers better.

Sky's the Limit is a great song, IMO.

I know how FJ responds to these type of things so if you get thumbed down, I just want to let you know it wasn't me. That being said, I still don't agree with you. I find no merit whatsoever in his music. If it were that alone, I wouldn't care. But he perpetuates this faux-gangster mentality that every black kid in the world tries to emulate and it just ends up making today's black youth look like a buncha hoodlums (which most of them aren't really, they just get stuck in the culture) And furthermore, he's a prick who has millions yet can't shell out 100 bucks for guitar lessons so he mimes it on stage and the dumb audience eats it up

i agree with you too in that lil wayne cant play guitar and tries to fake it for everybody. but that is not what im debating. im trying to explain how "how to love" is different from his usual hard core **** you songs. the fact is lil wayne has never been "faux-gangster." he WAS an actual gangster in the late 90's and 2000's but has broken away from that recently and people like you think he is still trying to act tough. also, you cant just pin him entirely on the reason black kids act like "a buncha hoodlums." there are plenty more people out there that are worse role models for young children than lil wayne

"I'm a venereal disease, like a menstrual bleed" Yes, truly timeless.
