No, just the humanity ^^

it seems as though if there was a zombie apocalypse, there would be more than an hour without electricity.

i really dont want there to ever be a zombie apocalypse

The 3 basic needs for survival are:

In a zombie apocalypse, I would head for an offshore oil carrier.
SHELTER: Even if the zombies could manage to swim, they wouldn't be able to climb the legs of the oil rig after I remove all the staircases/ladders 'n **** .
FOOD: They are stocked with enough food and water to last 100 people for almost 3 months, due to hurricanes 'n **** . You could also grow crops on the deck, and fish for more eatin.
WATER: You are surrounded by an ocean of water, which you can desalinize through evaporation on the deck of the carrier as well.

However, the most appealing aspect of the offshore oil drilling rig is by far the ability to drill oil for a virtually infinite supply of electricity. ENTERTAINMENT.
#199 to #159 - anon (07/18/2012) [-]
Ya good ******* luck with drilling oil by urself lol its complecated as **** and even if u managed to get it and not blow up ur rig it has to be refined at a plant on land
User avatar #182 to #159 - joper (07/18/2012) [-]
they will rust and you have big waves in the ocean so yeah oil rig is not the best choice.
your best bet is or in the desssert, in an offshore islan or somewhere cold
User avatar #183 to #182 - scarletspider (07/18/2012) [-]
Oil rigs and things of that sort are built to such a high quality that they will not degrade anytime in the near future unless manually destroyed by humans.
#172 to #159 - anon (07/18/2012) [-]
I've thought of the same thing... but who's going to keep the rig in check? Oilrigs require a lot of maintenance. On the upside, most of them have an on board refinery and a helicopter in case you need to go ashore to get food from a super marker or something.

Would be an absolute kick in the chest if fish were contaminated too.

Implying that the power would stay on forever in the event of a zombie apocalypse.

Haven't read the comments so I don't know if someone has said this before, but;

About desc, sure, what if they can't swim, but hey. They can't die, so they might as well just walk on the bottom of the ocean until they find an island with survivors?
User avatar #150 - severepwner (07/18/2012) [-]
We keep saying we are because of what we've experience in videogames. But then we have to realize that most of us are horribly out of shape, have limited knowledge in varieties of firearms, have no beneficial talents besides efficiently operating an internet. At least I assume most of us don't have helpful talents. We also have little survival skills when it comes to things like farming, cleaning firearms, preparing exotic foods. Our experience in videogames gives us many freedoms. Like having an easy reload, every time. Never having to clean a weapon. Having enough exercise and body strength to stand a chance. Do odd tactics deemed impossible in real life.
We don't really think about these things do we?
User avatar #96 - darthblam (07/18/2012) [-]
Well yeah, because the real world has something every zombie story ever seems to lack.
A functioning military force.
User avatar #109 to #96 - danieleinad (07/18/2012) [-]
what if the military got infected then what?
User avatar #111 to #109 - darthblam (07/18/2012) [-]
Then you're ****** .

Because if the military can't hold out, you sure as hell can't.
User avatar #113 to #111 - darthblam (07/18/2012) [-]
And it would be the combined forces of not only your country's military but possibly neighboring countries and most likely the UN.
User avatar #119 to #113 - falloutfanatic (07/18/2012) [-]
well if a worldwide pandemic were to occur, most countries would be lookin to themselves for defense... and not helping others
User avatar #130 to #111 - gammajk (07/18/2012) [-]
>if the military can't hold out, you sure as hell can't.

Then don't hold out. Go hide.
This is what I don't understand about people, if you try to be the hero you're dead.
User avatar #135 to #130 - darthblam (07/18/2012) [-]
What good would hiding do? You can't exactly outlast something that's already dead.
User avatar #138 to #135 - gammajk (07/18/2012) [-]
Who says zombies are already dead? What about the virus zombies? They still have to follow the laws of biology, unlike magic reincarnated zombies.
User avatar #144 to #138 - darthblam (07/18/2012) [-]
Even then.. I think you'd end up running out of supplies before the zombie population runs out of food and dies off...

The way I see it, the only real way to survive a zombie infection is to beat it down as quickly as possible.
User avatar #146 to #144 - gammajk (07/18/2012) [-]
Well, IMO the best opinion would be head north (NORTH north, not like winnipeg north), find an area with many lakes that have fish, and you're pretty much set if you have decent survival skills. Keep in mind that if zombies are required to follow the laws of biology, since they feel don't react to pain they will not react to things like extreme heat or cold, yet it will still affect them (making limbs fall off which renders them useless, destroying brain capabilities, etc).

Beating it down as soon as it starts would be a good strategy though, unless it's something like I Am Legend where most of the population is killed and only a small percentage actually turns into zombies, and the rest are immune. If it's airborne, we're kinda ****** .
User avatar #147 to #146 - darthblam (07/18/2012) [-]
That's a fair argument. I agree.. although this situation might be difficult to achieve properly I think.
Another factor to take into consideration is the other survivors that may have the same ideas. But.. eh that's a whole other discussion that I don't feel like getting into right now.
User avatar #137 to #135 - darthblam (07/18/2012) [-]
Or at least something that doesn't need to eat, drink, or sleep.
User avatar #140 to #137 - darthblam (07/18/2012) [-]
Well.. I guess that all depends on what kind of zombies we're talking about here.. but that's a whole different discussion.

User avatar #56 - Galante (07/18/2012) [-]
That is illogical. If were prepared for a zombie apocalypse, we would be prepared for hours and hours without electricity because without people, there is no one to run the power plants that give us our energy. Thus, the information above is false.

There are a lot of places that run off hydro power... sure we would need people to run those buildings, but at least dam waters would provide those places for power for a while during the outage

Loot every gas station, for fuel, food, drinks, smokes, then we would head out to my grandparents place out in the country, on the way, loot every gun store, and gas station we can. Then, just set up a secure trading post, with me and my rifle over looking the terrain, and live out there happily ever after.
User avatar #216 to #213 - trollchildxy (07/19/2012) [-]
Assuming that everything goes well that is a good plan. People always say escape somewhere but personally I live in a small town FILLED with rednecks. Pretty much every corner has a sports store (with a hunting section) or an armory. So me and my buddies figure using one of the nice farms about five miles out of town is isolated enough but close enough to more supplies.
User avatar #217 to #216 - danytheop (07/20/2012) [-]
Yeah, and people around here are nice enough to trade and **** . My state is going to be a ************* trade state! Corn, beans, and stuff for everyone!!

Guys, please put 5 seconds of thought into this.

Zombies can't swim, but water is nothing to them. They don't breathe, so they can go into the water with ease and feel no restrictions. Water is nothing, and if you get a light zombie, that ****** will float and thrash about, eventually making some progress.

I don't know why people think zombies can't swim. It's not like they'd drown or anything.
#18 to #14 - anon (07/17/2012) [-]
What about water pressure
User avatar #53 to #14 - majorfaget (07/18/2012) [-]
if you get a light zombie they would sink because its not buoyant enough
User avatar #110 to #14 - obscuryt (07/18/2012) [-]
The water would go into their throats and thus inside them as well as having wet clothes on them which would add a considerable amount of weight. Zombies would basically sink to the bottom.
User avatar #112 to #110 - tenminutevision (07/18/2012) [-]
That's reasonable.

Still not all zombies are solid.

But either way, water won't stop a zombie, though that doesn't mean it can float.
