Isn't Australia using the metric system... So wouldn't 120 degrees be lethally hot?

celcius. The "C" shares the same role as the "ft" for foot or the "mi" for mile. They are just measurements withing the Imperial system. Celsius is just a measurement within the Centigrade system or gradation.

Actually, during the Australian summer, the Earth is closer to the sun than during summer for the northern hemisphere.
#474 to #462 - anon (07/18/2012) [-]
Actually, the distance from the sun doesn't matter. The earth periodically moves many times its own diameter closer and further from tthe sun.

The reason lower latitudes are warmer is alsmost exclusively due to the inclination relative to the sun. Somewhere that is perfectly perpendicular to the sun will receive the maximum levels of radiation. England, for example, is inclined on the earth's surface to such an extent that I constantly feel like violently murdering children to bring a single miserable ounce of excitement to an otherwise painfully gray climate.
#536 to #347 - anon (07/18/2012) [-]
But if it was closer, it would be hotter than 30 C... I live in Winnipeg and lately it's been around 30-35. A week or so ago it was 42 with humidity.

but its the humidity in australia that makes it so uncomfortable. ive been i saudia arabia during 50'C tepretuars and it hasnt been that much of a problem, but back in Brisbane Australian its been 35'C and ive had a **** time. this calim is only important of you state what contry you're from.
