I find that the people who shun Capitalism are actually only aware of the bastardized, mutated, dick-butt version of it. And half of the time they do not really know what a true Capitalist advocates,

The funny part is that the picture next to Obama is a photo from the Great Depression - a disaster caused by rampant capitalism.

Actually, that is false....

Wow, you have a great argument there. I'm convinced.

I guess you are going to tell us that the depression was caused by some perverted form of capitalism, not the golden magic capitalism that you dream of. And by the way, it is funny to have someone complain about how people don't know what capitalism is supposed to be, while you prove that you have no clue what socialism is actually supposed to be.

Actually, the reason for the Great Depression came from over speculation and over inflated stock prices. The Federal Reserve was founded December 23, 1913 and promised to stop the continuous boom and bust cycles which resulted in small depressions every 20 or so years. The federal reserve would inflate the money supply when it was needed or shrink the money supply when that was needed. It was thought that with this meddling they could control the boom/bust cycles and for a time it seemed that they were right. A bust was expected to happen any year and people waited for it.... it never came, and so people gained a trust in the Federal Reserve that was irrational and so they bought stock on credit hoping that it would go up in price and gain them massive amounts of money. However, when the Federal reserve could no longer hold the bust at bay their stocks lost money and they owed so much money that they had no way to pay back their debts.

Money lenders therefore had no more money to fund profitable ventures as they had lended a large portion of it to people that could no larger pay it back. When the stocks crashed businesses were forced to fire people and those same people could no longer pay their debts and the cycle continued. When the Federal Reserve meddled in the economy they held back a bust until it burst in a massive depression... and that is how it was the governments involvement in the economy that started the Great Depression.

You have to remember that in the US, a lot of people consider every state involvement already "socialism". The actual meaning of the word "socialism" is not really taught in most schools, so that word is also a nice political weapon, as there is still a lot of indoctrination left over from the cold war.

Ron Paul (the guy at the bottom) is in favor of an approach where the state withdraws as much as possible (i.e. ironically he advocates exactly the kind of capitalism that caused the Great Depression and the recent banking crisis). His ideas on economics are outdated and disputed by the large majority of economists, who have shown over and over again that countries with a strong welfare system are actually much wealthier than countries like the US where everyone is left to fend for themselves. Paul is a medical doctor and has no formal education in economics whatsoever, yet considers himself an expert on the subject.
