I was severely disappointed by the movies since I'm a big fan of both the books and the granada televison series.

First, the real Sherlock Holmes (as in the ones in the books) never said "elementary" anything.
And you have the wrong Sherlock. RDJ is Benedict Cumberbatch's little bitch. Pic related, it's him.

Wrong on both counts. Having read all of the original stories, I can assure you that he said "elementary" on several occasions. The phrase associated with him that he never said is "elementary, my dear Watson". As for Cumberbatch, I think they both play Holmes well, but RDJ is truer to the character of the original stories.

tl;dr: anon fails again

Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes says "Elementary" in "The Crooked Man".

If such a game is afoot, did Robert Downy Jr. say it?

No, but that's the only Sherlock pic I have.
