Here's my honest opinion on the matter: I believe bombing Japan was ultimately the right option, though it was a decision I would never want to make. While it did lead to an unfortunate number of casualties, a full scale invasion of Japan could have led to millions of civilian casualties. A conservative estimate made without knowledge of the Manhattan Project estimated 5 to 10 million civilian casualties, along with about 1.7 to 4 million American casualties, and a full scale invasion would probably take around 10 years to complete.

Another thing to consider was that the US Army ordered a huge supply of 500,000 Purple Hearts (for injured soldiers) in preparation for Operation Downfall. To this day, 67 years and 5 wars later, the army has still only used about 400,000 of them.

And as to 9/11, while it was a tragedy, it was certainly not the worst thing to ever happen in world history, nor has anyone ever claimed that.

Once again, I don't mean to create a ********* with these remarks, I just want to give my honest opinion on the matter.
