Unfortunately, not much FunnyJunk users will know what Touhou is because this site is note based upon anything Japanese ever. 4chan used to have much fewer boards and they were all based upon Japan culture.

Can't we try to make Touhou famous?
#48 to #45 - tylosaurus (06/22/2012) [-]
Touhou is more famous than you think. In Japan atleast.
User avatar #50 to #48 - fedegon (06/22/2012) [-]
I know, but we still must spread it around, or something.
User avatar #52 to #50 - tylosaurus (06/22/2012) [-]
No, no we must not. Forcing it on to others is a bad thing, and that's why I don't like a lot of bronies.
#54 to #52 - fedegon (06/22/2012) [-]
Not "forcing", just spreading it, using reaction images of it and such, and if they ask, we just answer "touhou, a japanese vertical shooter".
#55 to #54 - tylosaurus (06/22/2012) [-]
Oh in that case, I'm already doing that. I got like 303 reaction images where the majority is of Touhou. Mostly Cirno because she's my waifu. Also that's why we have this channel, right? :P
User avatar #56 to #55 - fedegon (06/22/2012) [-]
Yep! Now excuse me, you gave me the urge to collect Patchouli images!

I probably have the Cirno pictures so.. No need to repay me.

question, what is touhou?
User avatar #2 to #1 - fedegon (06/21/2012) [-]
Just the best vertical shooter in the universe filled with teenage girls.
I'd recommend Touhou 6: The Embodiment of the Scarlet Devil, it has a nice set of characters (Including Patchouli Knowledge, my personal fav) and a challenge level so hard you'll scream "THIS IS THE ******* EASY DIFFICULTY?" The first time you play.
It's fun.
#17 to #2 - shattubatu (06/21/2012) [-]
Patchouli Knowledge? You mean the reclusive purple magic user who spends all her time in the library reading?

...

Maybe this post has a point...
#26 to #17 - fedegon (06/21/2012) [-]
Yes, she's also just like Elysia, a reclusive magic student learning from an elder named Celestia.
User avatar #51 to #26 - tylosaurus (06/22/2012) [-]
Not sure, did you get red thumbs for reference something similar together while this entire post does it too?..
User avatar #53 to #51 - fedegon (06/22/2012) [-]
I don't know, all I know is that they're all too similar, and I would guess their base model is the ancient goddess Athena.
Yes, I do usually spend time thinking about this.

You should try the insanse Difficulty. I have absolutely no life, and I can only get up to the start of stage 5, with using all my continues.
User avatar #13 to #10 - elbrysobrony (06/21/2012) [-]
Speaking of which, don't you think there's just a wicked ass jump in difficulty from the thrid level to the fourth? In touhou 6, I mean.

My god yes. I have a theory on the set up for touhou games.

I think it's because the first two levels you're gaining power.
3rd Level, the game warns you that things are about to get serouis.
4th level, it really settles down to screw with you.
5th level, to try and drawin any continues you might have.
6th level, BOSS BATTLE!
Extra Stage, Oh god! The Humanity!

Strangely enough, I think the 4th stage boss (patchouli knowledge) Is more of a pain then sakuya (5th stage boss)

A popular Indie game series from Japan, it has a large fan following even in Europe and the US (though outside of Japan, not as vocal compared to Bronies)

It's difficult to explain fully, but it's basically an entire fictional world based off a series of "Bullet hell" shoot em up games, that is constantly being built upon by Zun (creator of the games) and its fan base.

Never heard of touhou
#41 to #33 - anon (06/22/2012) [-]
Because we don't advertise it everywhere like bronies do. Sure, there's an occasional thing, but geez.
User avatar #8 - theresetbutton (06/21/2012) [-]
I love touhou, but the difference that I see here is that we confine it to forums and sites dedicated to it rather than shove it down people throats. Thats my take on it, I'm a huge fan but I never tell any one that doesn't enjoy it, only people I know that do enjoy it.
#38 to #8 - bradoons (06/22/2012) [-]
I confine it to forums and dedicated sites too, I only wish the ponyfags would do the same, maybe there wouldn't be so many haters.

I don't see why this is in ponytime. Also this can be said about a ******** of games and what not. Fan-made stuff is common for almost anything. I'm pretty sure there are more female fans of touhou than female fans of mlp. Touhou is an indie game, mlp isn't. There's VERY few males in touhou.

Also why must so many things be related to mlp?
#66 to #47 - ataeru (06/22/2012) [-]
Whim of the moment. My friend who is a brony, dislikes Touhou, and I do the same but in reverse. I haven't seen the similarities in how we handle the our respected series before, so I thought it was mind blowing when I first saw this.

Didn't mean to piss off the touhou fans, and I put it in "ponytime" because the post on /jp/ redirected to /mlp/, I thought it would have been awkward if it was on Touhou-Project channel.
User avatar #67 to #66 - tylosaurus (06/23/2012) [-]
Well as I said. A lot of shows can be compared to eachother out there and posts like this only gets the fandom hyped. I just hate how they have to ponify every single thing they come across.
#69 to #67 - ataeru (06/23/2012) [-]
Didn't know that before, and now I know, I'll keep that in mind.

Well obviously the stories are different, and MLP is everywhere while Touhou is held back from being other then an indie game series and a few manga.

But the way fans handle their respect series is rather similar, as the post above stated.

What is Touhou?
User avatar #9 to #7 - theresetbutton (06/21/2012) [-]
A danmaku based game, its basically a top down bullet hell shooter game
User avatar #12 to #7 - elbrysobrony (06/21/2012) [-]
The hardest ******* game you can ever play, that DOESN'T have its primary purpose of being impossible.
#36 to #12 - nyrintriball (06/22/2012) [-]
No, I'll be honest with you, I Wanna Be The Guy (and ironically, the spin-offs of that game, which are I Wanna Be the Shrine Maiden and I Wanna Be The Shrine Maiden 2) is the hardest game you will ever play.

For Spark: It is a Danmaku - read: bullet curtain - style game, similar to games such as, just off the top of my head, Raiden X, an arcade vertical shooter. Each of the games from the sixth installment and up are composed of six stages, each featuring a mid-boss and boss fight. Each game also comes with four difficulties, which are Easy, Normal, Hard, and Lunatic, which increases the amount of danmaku on screen at any given time, the amount of danmaku from enemies, and the speed of said danmaku.
Each game has certain staples. Lives, Bombs (your spell cards), and your faith meter. Lives are just that, you run out of them, you're going to need to continue from the beginning of that stage with a, well, continue, or forfeit the game, and in Embodiment of the Scarlet Devil, you only have three continues to work on. Bombs help clear the screen, or sections of, of danmaku, and make you invincible for a brief period of time. Your faith meter determines the points you obtain from Faith (usually blue in colour), the higher this is, the more points you get, a usually vital way to obtain lives in any game.
Each game has it's own special mechanic to it, keeping it somewhat separate from the other games, one such example is the collection of life, bomb, and trance souls in the most recent game, Ten Desires, where you have to, as stated, collect a certain amount of souls to gain a bomb, life, or raise your trance bar, which you can use at will to enter a powerful, invincible state, or is forced if you have enough of the meter filled if you die. Which is separate from a mechanic in, say, Inperishable Night, where you can select a pairing of girls (Reimu and Yukari for instance), and switch between them to effectively switch shot types.
That's all I can fit, hope that helps.
User avatar #44 to #36 - elbrysobrony (06/22/2012) [-]
I know, but those games are made with the idea of being impossible to begin with.
User avatar #72 to #44 - nyrintriball (06/30/2012) [-]
Holy **** late reply is late. I think I read your comment wrong before, but in any case, but to counter that, Easy Mode is usually doable with a little practice.
User avatar #23 - catamerge (06/21/2012) [-]
One is a show with ponies.
The other is a bullet hell game with girls.
Pony fans put ponies everywhere.
Touhou fans basically only talk about it with people they know are also fans.
Also most fandom personalities for Touhou characters suck.

User avatar #28 to #27 - runzerinn (06/21/2012) [-]
He's a very difficult character. I mostly play him for fun in non serious games but I've found out he's a very strong laner (Mid) I play him as AP (like everyone does..) I love TF so much mainly because I like failing with him. I prepare for a gank, "Ah time to prepare my yellow card" I then flash into the enemy AND toss a blue card at him... Not as planned.

For some reason I just love playing him even if I win or lose the lane.
