Go on youtube and search Michael the Gorilla. He talks about how his parents were killed by poachers. I want to become a Primatologist when i'm older (I'm 15), so I can go to Africa and work with Chimpanzees, like Jane Goodall. If I ever see a poacher I'm going to murder him. I'll find his tribe and I'll burn it the **** down. I don't even care. **** them all. I'd sooner shoot 10 random people than one ape.

A lot of ape poachers live in a tribal-like society out in the jungle, since it takes so long to get to where the apes are.

I agree with this in a away. Humans are very hard to reason with, so it would be kind of hard to track down every single person who does this, and even harder to talk them out of it, so killing them COULD become a reasonable option if one believes in their side strongly enough. My side of it isn't just gorillas and apes, there's SO many species of animals that are now endangered, not just a few here and there like it used to be, and some even extinct already. I wish to help the ones that can still be saved.
I'm currently working my way to becoming a veterinarian, and after that, I'm going to do my best to try to work at a zoo, and see how much I can do there. I have a lot of options though.
But, even if your methods are disagreeable, when it comes down to it the point is you'd like to help animals, so I'm with you there. And by the time you're able to do so you'll realize there's better ways to do so than what you said.

Nothing has been done that helps the apes, that works. None of the things to spread awareness have worked, none of the charity funds have worked, it's all ********. The only thing that has made remotely any progress was making it shoot-to-kill in most of the African countries where ape-poaching is a problem.

You just seem like an angry individual, it's nice that you're sticking up for what you believe in so strongly, and that it's for animals, but it's okay, you'll grow up one day and find a realistic way to help.

inb4 massive red thumbs,

I don't like chimpanzees. They are cannibals. And when they attack each other or humans, they aim for the hands, face, and groin. There are a lot of well-meaning people in the world who have been irreparably harmed by a chimpanzee attack.
That's not to say chimpanzees aren't lovely and cute and smart, etc. It's just that so many people glamorize them when they're just not that different from other animals. They can be just as vicious as anything else.
Lastly, killing poachers wouldn't help all that much, because oftentimes poachers are poor and are just trying to find a way to feed their families. It's a difficult situation that should be solved by looking at the root cause. I bet that the best way to end poaching is through welfare and education programs in impoverished areas.

That's all I have to say, I just thought FJ might need a different perspective on a complicated issue.

It's in their nature, clearly. Basing animals off of morals we as humans have set for ourselves is ridiculous. They are not humans, so naturally their definitions of what's right and what's wrong would be different. We can't call a species savage because they're doing something that's in their instincts to do.
If an alien species came to earth and declared war on us, and called us savage and barbarian because we farm animals, cut down trees for paper, etc; that would be unfair, because, after thousands of generations of doing it, it's become part of our nature.

I don't think something being in our nature is an excuse. It doesn't take away from the immorality of something. It just helps us understand and rationalize.

Well what are morals? Morals are really just things we, humans, come up with to differ between right and wrong. In some countries, it's immoral for women to be out of the house without a man, or to show their face in public. We can't force our morals on wild animals.

Eh, I prefer to ascribe to the Kantian view that morals are universal. And by saying that injustice against women (or any moral rule) is okay in only some places because of their culture is falling for the relativist fallacy.

I think morals are bigger than something we come up with. Obviously we can't make animals follow our morals, because they aren't smart enough, but we can judge them for being immoral. Or at least I do. The thing with chimpanzees is, we value them as being so intelligent and caring. So I like to tell people the whole truth about them. Because they aren't better than any other animals, and in some respects they are worse.

I guess what I'm trying to say here is, that I just want people to know that chimpanzees are the caring angels that we want them to be. They are animals. And more vicious, cruel animals than cats or dogs, who we domesticated to be safer.

I don't think it's right to judge animals for what they do out of instinct, based off of rules which we came up with, which they can't understand.

Chimps are much, much stronger than us, which makes them seem more vicious. Cats are not very strong at all. A cat can bite you at any given time, and it's no big deal. I'd say, in captivity, chimps are about as vicious as your average house cat. Since they're much stronger, however, they seem more brutal, since they can act up as easy as a cat, but they do much more damage.

Here's another interesting fact: you're not breathing real air. It's too expensive to pump this far down. We just take carbon dioxide out of a room, freshen it up a little, and pump it back in. So you'll be breathing the same room full of air for the rest of your life. I thought that was interesting.
