let me blow your ******* mind for a second, what we have here is psychological technique of selling a product/service, where a person will buy the said service or product because they see the special offer actually costs more, thus the consumer thinks they are getting a much better deal and think they are taking advantage of the seller's intellect, but in reality, the seller made profit off you, they got you into buying their product/service and that is what most businesses aim for. making the consumer a fool for falling into their trap.

Yes, many places do that. Some gyms offer spas, pools, and other exercises to members with years only. So, by purchasing a year, you are able to enjoy extra benefits that ordinary members aren't; for only a small fraction more in the long run.
User avatar #155 to #1 - raidertrolls (06/04/2012) [-]
technically the person who does $10 per month would be getting a better deal because in 18 months they would have only paid $180 and the other one is paying $199 for 18 months
#196 to #1 - anon (06/04/2012) [-]
Nope,in fact they only put that price to catch your attention, not as an offer itself, you are looping the loop, there is no necesity to write a physicology book about ''Lets put something ridiculous in our advertisement so that people talk about us''

Ur dumb, The 2 black hinges on the sides holding the poster sign itself are there and some joker either cut out a piece from another sign or made it himself and placed it in the black hinges holding that poster. You can tell by this because you can clearly see the colors don't match to the original poster which is blue and the one that is tampered and put into the sign is purple. Also the lettering font's don't match. You can also see that the fake part of the sign put in their is fake because its not flat and on the top of that piece u see a white outline which is from the faggot cutting it and placing it inside the sides of the poster holder. How do you guys feel now?

Why, though?

If someone's really that dumb to fall into the false economy trap for something they don't even need (example: this gym) wouldn't they deserve it?

User avatar #181 to #50 - glasgowrangers (06/04/2012) [-]
Not really, it targets old people

You say dumb, but 70 years ago not everyone had the education you have the opportunity to get. People left school at like 13 or 14 so many still don't have good arithmetic

Also, it's more common for older people have a tendency to forget things, so it's not really fair to take advantage of them.

It's a pretty grubby way of doing business and if your a trillion dollar company like say Walmart are you really saying they should be allowed to take advantage of older people who by no fault of their own may struggle to see past the false advertising?

User avatar #243 to #181 - HarvietheDinkle (06/04/2012) [-]
The thing is that this is so blatantly obvious that you don't need anything past a 4th grade education to see why it's bad.

Sure, other practices like fine print are cheapshots but this picture in particular (which doesn't involve old peoples' memory; just logic) doesn't fit that description
User avatar #244 to #243 - glasgowrangers (06/04/2012) [-]
Well you would need some sort of panel to judge which ones are acceptable and which are not

And 9 times out of 10, it would be the big businesses with expensive law teams that would have these pricing policies in place. If you make it legal in some cases, it would be very hard to enforce

All the illegal aliens in my town used to go to Planet fitness for the cheap membership. Then they figured out it's even cheaper to go to the expensive sports club and split one membership 25 ways, because the front desk signs in by matching your face and they all look similar. The club didn't find out until the same Raul signed in 15 times in one day.

planet fitness is for ******* idiots anyway.

my friend went to that gym to work out with another friend and they made him leave because he was lifting too heavy and was being too noisy slamming his bar into the one damn squat rack there.

needless to say planet fitness tries to get into that market that has lazy people who buy a membership but dont come.

said friend also asked the trainer why they were doing some weird sit up squat **** and the trainer could never explain herself.

moral of the story find a real gym if you want to get stronger

and if you out lift everyone at a planet fitness congratulations on being stronger than 12 year olds and middle aged moms.

I lift a lot actually. And play water polo in college. Just never seen the need to grunt. Breathing works just fine for me.
User avatar #116 to #110 - sinonyx ONLINE (06/04/2012) [-]
grunt while lifting weights is the equivalent of shouting in martial arts. honestly, it really does help you put out more energy/force
#112 to #110 - DEW72 (06/04/2012) [-]
I mean unless youre maxing. But you dont go to the gym every day to max out.
User avatar #120 to #112 - GamerMandrew (06/04/2012) [-]
Go ahead bro... Try and squat 335 lbs without a single sound. Making noise and shouting helps get that final push. I don't normally max either, but I do 5x3, and that **** gets heavy.
#240 to #120 - DEW72 (06/04/2012) [-]
I'm not saying you can lift without breathing heavily. But breathing heavily and grunting are 2 totally different things. Theres no need for grunting. Its restricting airflow as you push up. Taking strong slow breaths is the same thing. Making the noise is just lack of thinking because its extremely avoidable.

******** . You realize how much 34 % would be right?? So a dude whos max is 100 lbs can suddenly bench 134 by yelling? **** no. Do some real research.

The worst is that the only every have 2 or 3 bench presses. They're always occupied by somebody who has no idea how to use it and seems to be inventing their own workouts.

maybe, now bear with me, maybe it's like if you start buying the $10 package then you'll get lazy and stop, but if you get the $200 one then you feel motivated to finish just so you don't waste money
User avatar #58 to #55 - donkeyking (06/04/2012) [-]
That doesn't make any sense. It costs more money to do the 18 month thing, what's the point?
User avatar #59 to #58 - enclavesoldier (06/04/2012) [-]
I was totally agreeing with him because I suck at math... then I double checked myself and realized im retarded
User avatar #60 to #58 - stoffanator (06/04/2012) [-]
I'm having trouble explaining, like maybe people will no that eventually they'll stop buying the $10 one in like 3 months, but if they know they need to be in shape they might buy the $200 one and they won't stop for fear of wasting the money idk
User avatar #62 to #60 - donkeyking (06/04/2012) [-]
That still makes no sense
User avatar #93 to #62 - adunsaveme (06/04/2012) [-]
What's not to get? people spend more so they're more inclined to finish it so their money isn't wasted. it isn't a difficult concept.
#64 to #62 - nakee (06/04/2012) [-]
with the 200$ program, you are forced to finish the 18months because you already paid for it, unlike the 10$ one where you could stop paying in any month you want
User avatar #66 to #64 - donkeyking (06/04/2012) [-]
Again, you can still do 18 months. I kind of understand what you are saying, but there's no point on paying 20 dollars extra to not quit, if you're gonna quit you would quit either way
#78 to #66 - anon (06/04/2012) [-]
But if you've got weak willpower, the only factor keeping you from quitting is your will. Paying $10 a month means the only factor is your desire to be in shape vs. your desire to be lazy. Paying $200 for 18 months means you've got your desire to be in shape and your desire to not waste a lot of money vs desire to be lazy. It gives you more of a reason to stay.
User avatar #81 to #78 - fauxshores ONLINE (06/04/2012) [-]
This actually makes sense. Im fat and lazy and i would want my money's worth.
