This is based on an actual radio conversation between a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier (U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln) and Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October, 1995

Canadians: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid collision.
Americans: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the North to avoid a collision.
Canadians: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision.
Americans: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.
Canadians: No, I say again, you divert YOUR course.
Americans: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN, THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES' ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH--I SAY AGAIN, THAT'S ONE FIVE DEGREES NORTH--OR COUNTER-MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP.
Canadians: This is a lighthouse. Your call.

People are overreacting to this... yes, they may have ran the risk of war. Yes, he was probably being a dick.

It's a joke, no need to start internet fights over it.

Besides, a war with Iran wouldn't last too long considering none of the Iranian people hate America, just their government.

Really everyone? Really? For the most part they have euro-funny junk has a point, this guy risked war for no reason other than to show off. But Euro-funny junk feels the need to just start **** for the sake of starting **** . Yes, America is very sorry that wealthy ignorant families always vacation in Europe. But please, we're all fighting for the defense of western civilization. Why can't we go back to the things used to be?
User avatar #133 to #128 - therealpokemon (05/23/2012) [-]
Because we have become too proud and **** to understand what it means to have camaraderie. Back in WWII, the stuff in your picture happened. Nowadays, that would happen, but only certain people would do it. Why? Because only a handful of people are truly nice, decent human beings the same way that they were back in the 1940's. You know what I mean.
#145 to #133 - brobafett ONLINE (05/23/2012) [-]
Bull. As terrible as war is, it still creates friends among it's participants. About 5 or 6 years ago me and my family welcomed a British soldier who served with my brother to our Christmas celebration. He has been a good family friend for years and always makes a point to visit us for a few hours when he's in the States. But what do I care most people are already gonna call bull on my story and go back to fighting for no reason other than to fight.
User avatar #667 to #145 - therealpokemon (05/24/2012) [-]
It was implied by "certain people" to include military members, as to be in a military, you have a certain set of values and principles instilled in you in the process. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

1. The Marines don't fly FA-18 Super Hornets. Only the Navy does.
2. USMC uses F/A-18 Hornets
3. USMC is soon switching over to F-35
Pic somewhat related

not sure why a slash makes that big of a difference like saying yf22 doesnt change it from the f22

1. The Marines do fly the F/A-18 Hornets.
2. The USMC is the United States Marine Corps.
3. The F-35 is still in a testing phase, and the F/A-18 will still be a part of the USMC arsenal for the foreseeable future even with the F-35 in active service.
User avatar #778 to #776 - LocoJoe (05/24/2012) [-]
I know that USMC=Marines. I was saying the USMC uses F/A-18 Hornets instead of FA-18 Super Hornets.

Ok, in 3 years I'm thinking about joining the Army straight out of high school to do ROTC. My only problem is my eyesight, so I'll probably get put in intelligence. What does FJ think?
User avatar #607 to #601 - LocoJoe (05/24/2012) [-]
Can you get laser eye surgery to fix it? I'm sure they'll let you wear glasses but that's a liability. I suggest sticking with the intel job.
User avatar #644 to #601 - sketchE (05/24/2012) [-]
for rotc id suggest going to new mexico military institute since its a 2 year program as opposed to a 4 .i think the only thing your eyesight might affect you in would be if you were trying to branch aviation armor or infantry. theres still field artillary ordnance MI and a bunch of others but the do make perscription inserts for eyepro and oakley makes ballistic eyepro with perscription
#649 to #601 - anon (05/24/2012) [-]
Getting out of high school in 2 years (about end of my sophomore year) going straight into college with Navy ROTC, going into service afterwards as an officer
User avatar #674 to #601 - dinokillerdude (05/24/2012) [-]
Not sure if this will help (all I'm really familiar with are USMC OCS programs) but eyesight shouldn't really matter unless you are blind as a bat. You should be able to wear glasses (MAYBE contacts) if it can be fixed within a certain range or have it corrected with laser surgery. If you get it fixed with laser surgery then your only problem will be with aviation contracts (I know Marine aviators won't accept candidates with certain procedures done). Talk to a recruiter or an officer selection officer (or the Army equivalent). Regardless, thanks for stepping up!
User avatar #678 to #674 - heartlessrobot (05/24/2012) [-]
I'm nearly legally blind without assistance. If a contact falls out or my glasses break during a firefight I'm ******* toast.
#608 to #601 - johnstyron (05/24/2012) [-]
What I think? Well, if you know that much about the army, you're pretty ********** . To do ROTC you have to go to a college. There is usually a Navy, Airforce, and Army ROTC unit at a lot of universities. Go to a recruiter and talk to him about enlistment options and study for the ASVAB. Do you homework before you dedicate 4 years to your country/constitution/government; and I don't mean play MW3
User avatar #614 to #608 - heartlessrobot (05/24/2012) [-]
I know about ROTC, I'm looking at multiple colleges but only found one I really liked. I'm looking for a college that lets you major in Mortuary Sciences.
#617 to #601 - johnstyron (05/24/2012) [-]
Oh and your eyesight. If glasses help, they'll issue you glasses. Intel isn't as laid back as it sounds. After my cousin did two tours in Iraq as infantry he changed into Intel. But they still send him overseas. He's working with the australians in southern afghanistan right now
User avatar #624 to #617 - heartlessrobot (05/24/2012) [-]
Glasses work, but I'm nearly legally blind without some assistance, so I'd be up **** creek without a paddle if they break during a firefight.
User avatar #655 to #624 - sgc (05/24/2012) [-]
there is always laser eye surgery, in a lot of cases the army will pay for the procedure
User avatar #659 to #655 - heartlessrobot (05/24/2012) [-]
I'm thinking about it, but there is always the possibility it will make me go colorblind, and then I'll be off to a really bad start in service (if I'm still eligible if I'm colorblind).
