Cats recognize when you're gone, if you're important enough to their lives.

If you have a cat that is mostly out doors and stops by every other day, they're not going to give one **** if you're gone.

If you have a cat who lives in a tiny apartment, and you suddenly leave and have someone else take care of them, their behavior changes dramatically. It's not the same way that a dog misses their owner, or a human misses another human, because cats are not dogs or humans. Animals have different emotions than we do, and to label their behavior with human emotions is ignorant.

Didn't know that - thanks. But how long could it take until your cat recognize you, if you're living in a tiny apartment?
User avatar #70 to #65 - maxoverderp (05/21/2012) [-]
About as long as it takes for you to get into a routine with him/her

My grandama past away about a year before we moved. And my cat slept under her bed everyday untill we moved. We put a picture of her next to his bed and he licks it every now and then.

When I was gone for a week my cat would not leave my side for a month and cried when I locked her out of a room. Apparently she cried at my door for 2 hours straight every day when I was gone. Picture very related Its her.

I unfortunately don't have any cats anymore as of a few years ago,
but my little dog notices when I'm about to leave.
He memorized my school schedule and work schedule and would practically avoid me when I was about to leave because he was pissed.
I always lean in for him to give me a kiss before I leave but he always turns his head like "Nah, bitch"
but when I get home, he won't stay the **** away from me lol.

<- Pic related; it's my dog, Beefcake.

Yeah, he's half Shih-tzu but ended up with the worst underbite anybody's ever seen.
I think it's adorable.

Well since everyone is posting their cat related stories....

There was a week when everyone in my family was gone due to various circumstances (work, school, vacation, ect.) and we left my cat (outdoor cat) with enough food to last her the week

Well I was the 1st one home in the family, and I didn't see my cat the 1st day I was back. Sometimes she goes and hunts all day, so I didn't make much of it

2nd day, I still didn't see any signs of her, she might of eaten her food, but it was hard to tell if she touched it recently

3rd day I was starting to accept the fact my cat had maybe run away, couldn't blame her either, alone for a week, no attention or acknowledgment, it made sense that she would, but it made me sad either way

4th day I just spent a lot of needless time outside just in case my cat might of been around, but around night fall I gave up and accepted my cat prob left, and when I was locking up the house, I heard her crying bloody murder from a neighbors yard and I called out to her, and she came running to me.

I never realized how much I loved my cat till that incident

<---mah kitty
you bastards

When I left for Florida for a week, my cat got depressed and wouldn't eat. When I got home, he cried until I picked him up and would only eat what I gave him.
