of course dinosaur farts were the major contributor to global warming back then, there wasn't anything else to contribute to it which could match the output of all the gassy dinosaurs

The sunlight reaching the earth is 30,000 years old? ******** !

try 8 minutes, OP.
User avatar #53 to #51 - Livelett (05/19/2012) [-]
I think whats meant by that is sunlight from other stars....
User avatar #55 to #53 - truemox (05/19/2012) [-]
possibly, but I thought it was at least a few million LY to the closest star.
User avatar #56 to #55 - Livelett (05/19/2012) [-]
I think the closest is 5 light years. lemme check XD

Its: 4.243 light years
Proxima Centauri

It means the energy created in the sun's core takes about 30 000 years to make its way to the surface of the sun because of the sun's density before being emitted as light, which you were right about, takes only 7-8 minutes

#13 - anon (05/18/2012) [-]
It takes sunlight just over 8 minutes (on average) to reach the earth...

And "dinosaur farts" contributing to global warming is just a theory.. The idea that 150 million years of the earth aging and its core cooling down, is a much more reliable theory...
#24 to #13 - zynax (05/18/2012) [-]
On average, it takes energy between 10,000 and 170,000 years to leave the sun's interior and then be emitted from the surface as light
User avatar #19 to #13 - miamimonster (05/18/2012) [-]
From the time the light is emitted it takes 30,000 to reach the outer part of the sun from there it only takes 8 minutes to get to the Earth. But Yea they should have clarified this.
#14 to #13 - avni (05/18/2012) [-]
It's true that it takes 8 minutes for light to reach Earth from the Suns surface but the heat and energi has been on its way trough the dense layers of the Sun for much longer. So it depends on how you look at it.
